Chapter 52
Lucinda's POV
I woke up with a spring in my step... Well technically I hadn't really had that much sleep since I was so excited about going to the Xortis Lake house... And the best part about it is, I get to bring Evgeny with me.
Amongst all the excitement I've been feeling a sense of anxiety. I'm not particularly sure what it is but I feel like anything small could irritate me.
Dami had returned from his disappearance with Lucian to attend his brother's wedding. I had asked him about it but he just said there was some dumb political problem in the underworld. I wanted to ask him more about it but was interrupted by Diego calling to make sure I have everything.
"Do you have all the suits and dresses in the car?"
"Yes."
"Rings?"
"Yes."
"Confirmed the order for the flowers?"
"Yes."
"Confirmation for the catering?"
Shit.
"Donavan is on that..."
I lied. He didn't seem to suspect it though which meant I was in the clear.
"What about the-"
"Diego!"
"Sorry... I'm just really stressed."
"I can imagine. Now, I've got everything covered, stop worrying or I might just 'forget' something out of spite."
"You wouldn't dare..."
"Have you met me?"
That was then followed by a subtle but stern threat from Dee.
"Hey... Do you remember that guy who came to your birthday party at the park? I think his name was Lucio or something... "
"No Diego. I'm pretty sure I don't remember my guardian's son."
He scoffed at me and I could practically feel that eye roll from the other side of the line.
"Hmm. Your sarcasm is still as charming as ever... Anyway, if he's free, he's invited to the wedding."
"I don't think that's a good ide-"
My phone was yanked forcefully out of my hands, which caught me by suprise.
"Hello Diego. It's Lucian... I would love to attend your wedding."
I couldn't hide the astonishment on my face at the audacity that this man had. He smirked at me and continued light chit chat with Dee before I grabbed my phone back.
Final words were exchanged and I ended the call and continued bringing everything to my car. Lucian seemed to follow suite and helped me carry the rest and try and fit them all in my trunk.
"What are you doing here?"
"Enjoying your company and I was invited to the wedding."
"Only by association... Had you never come to my birthday party they never would have known you existed. And what's with you and showing yourself to mortals these days?"
"Why not? You're doing it..."
"That's cause I'm half-human dummy..."
"Yeah well... You're also half-demon!"
I raised a brow at his childish retort.
"Your point?"
"I- haven't thought about it now but it'll come later!"
"Uh huh..."
Once everything was packed nicely in the car I grabbed my suitcase and Evgeny's cage and took them to the car.
Lucian was still leaning against the car staring off into space. The sun hit his face at the perfect angle making him seem... Well... Perfect. His sharp jawline and cobalt blue eyes along with the obsidian black hair seemed to blend together so perfectly making him look like a runway model.
His hair was messy, but in a good way that made it look he just rolled out of bed. I suspected that he had been running his fingers through it, which he only does whenever he's stressed or nervous. Suddenly I had the immense erge to run my fingers through that obsidian black hair.
Wait what?!
Bad thoughts go away... Don't ever come back another day.
Thankfully a cab pulled up in my driveway and Chase stepped out and took his bags out before paying the driver and walking towards me. I embraced him in a hug and he gave me a gentle peck on the lips. Lucian behind us gagged and I glared at him before helping Chase with his bags.
"Princess... What is this... Mortal doing here?"
I sighed and turned to Lucian.
"That mortal has a name... And he's my boyfriend. We're going together."
He scowled slightly before he full on smirked.
"Wonderful then. I shall be joining you."
My jaw dropped all the way to the ground.
"Wait what-"
"Aww sweet we're carpooling... I'm in!"
Dami sauntered out of my house like he owned the place and put two small suitcases in the trunk.
Wait a damn minute...
How long has he been in my house?!
"Wha- Uh..."
"Babe?"
"I didn't plan this I swear..."
"What are you two still standing around for? We've got a 5 hour drive ahead of us."
And that is how I ended up trapped in a car with Lucian and Dami arguing about the most stupid things ever known to man which was beginning to piss me off because not only did they ruin some alone with Chase, they also happened to ruin the idea of road trips for me.
I grip around the gear tightened and Chase seemed to notice my hostile attitude and held me hand. I smiled up at him and visibly relaxed. He gave my hand a little squeeze and I returned the favor.
"Mortal... Kindly take your off of the princess or I will happily dismember it from your body..."
"Yeah... Paws off extra number two."
Chase raised his hands in the air to symbolize surrender and I sighed. Why the hell is he letting them bully him?
With that being my final straw I pulled into a gas station and sprinted for the bathroom. I went in one of the stalls and ran my fingers through my hair.
Why am I so stressed today?
Absent-mindedly I found myself reaching for my phone and dialing a familiar number. I placed it on my ear. I could feel my heart beat faster with every ring and when I was about to end the call he picked up.
"Butterfly?"
"Hi..."

THE NAME LITERALLY CAME TO ME WHEN I WAS WATCHING K-DRAMA. SO I WAS ASSOCIATING HOW LUCINDA TAKES SOULS AND THE GRIM REAPER HELPS SOULS CROSS OVER THE OTHER SIDE AND THEN MY BRAIN WAS LIKE 'GRIM REAPERS'!
OH AND TOMORROW (JAN 6TH)IS MY BIRTHDAY!!! I'M NOT SURE WHETHER I'LL BE ABLE TO POST ANYTHING BUT JUST WANTED TO LET Y'ALL KNOW...
