Chapter 66

Lucinda's POV

I woke up with a small throb in my head. I must have really hit my head hard. Who knew that an intern working in hell could swing that hard? Groaning, I got up and checked my phone.

Four missed calls and five texts from Chase.

I sighed.

Somehow I was kind of expecting it.

Since when was this so hard?!

Deciding to make it a later problem I got up to get ready for the day. I jumped back a little when I saw my reflection in the mirror. I frowned at my face and pulled out out a toothbrush to brush my teeth.

Once halfway done my phone dinged. I glared at it accusingly like it was the cause of all my problems. Begrudgingly, I picked up the phone and looked at my screen. My eyebrows raised slightly to see that it was in fact Dee who texted me.

A sudden jolt of happiness sprouted in me. I hadn't even thought of messaging him since passing out at their wedding - which I totally feel bad about - and not seeing them off to their honeymoon.

There was a picture of him and Matty on a boat with the sunset in the background of their photo. Underneath it was a tag that said 'Enjoying Mauritius with my hubby, hope you feeling better after your whole dramatic ass fiasco at MY wedding. Love you bitch'

I rolled my eyes and smiled a little bit. It's was nice to know that he was happy and enjoying himself. I texted him back and he responded almost immediately before saying that he'd call a little later.

Placing my phone back on the sink I finished brushing my teeth and took a seriously long shower. Once refreshed and - not - so ready for the day I dried my hair and picked up my phone.

No messages from Donny.

The notification from Chase's unopened messages glared at me accusingly. I groaned and fell back on my bed. I closed my eyes for a second before my phone started to ring and I shot up from my bed and answered without checking who was calling.

"Hello!"

The was slight silence then a sigh.

"If I'd known you'd be so excited about me calling you, I wouldn't have called all those hours ago."

My whole demeanour deflated like a balloon. This is why you must always check who's calling you before you answer the phone people!

"Oh... Chase."

There was another silence. He sighed again and I could imagine him rubbing his face.

"I assume that excitement wasn't for me."

Did I sound too disappointed?

"Uh... No... Yeah. Um Diego said that he was gonna call me so I guess I just missed him."

"Okay..."

There was yet another silence and this time it was strenuous. I was just two seconds from ending the call before he said something.

"Are you... Okay?"

That was... Hesitant.

"Uh yeah... My heads still throbbing a bit though."

"I can imagine, it was pretty hard fall."

He chuckled a little bit after that. I put my hand on my chest in feign offence.

"Are you laughing at me?!"

"What-No, I would never..."

I heard him chuckling lightly on the other side and I glared at the screen accusingly like he could see me glaring at him.

"You are! You're totally laughing at me!"

"Okay okay... You've got to admit though it was pretty funny...."

I frowned slightly but with a little humour on my face.

"Oh I wouldn't know, I was completely unconscious."

"No but don't you find it odd though? Who trips and knocks themselves unconscious?!"

"What?! I'm a generally clumsy person, okay Chase? The floor basically hates me."

"Th floor is an inanimate object..."

"Still..."

After a few seconds his laughter died down and back to silence we were. I picked at the hem of my towel and stared blankly at my carpet.

What does he want me to do? Stand on the ledge of a skyscraper and confess my undieing love for him?

Seems easy but why am I finding it so difficult...

A few years ago I wouldn't have hesitated but now everything just seems so different, like I've developed a conscience of some kind.

"Do you wanna talk about what happened at the wedding?"

Huh... I was kinda hoping he wouldn't mention it but then again, he is Chase.

"Not really..."

"Are we... Good?"

Way too much hesitation.

"Yeah, yeah... We're good."

"We should hang out sometime... I mean if you're free."

"Uh sure"

Not really sure what to say after that I hung up the call and fell back on my bed. Too much stress for such a simple yet complicated task.

With much restraint I got up and threw on a robe. With my slippers on i dragged myself to the kitchen to make something to eat. Looking through my fridge and cupboards I found some instant noodles which looked very appealing.

So I put a pot on the stove and let the water boil for a little bit before I added the noodles to cook. Once they were almost done I added the spice and let it simmer for thirty seconds before I took it off the heat.

I grabbed a soda from the fridge and took the pot with me to the living room with a fork. Once comfortable on the couch I found a good show to binge on while I eat.

Half-way through my meal my phone next to me dings. I groaned.

How many times does Chase have to keep texting me?!

Begrudgingly I put my pot down to look at the text only to be baffled by who had texted me. A simple order from Donny, worded so that even an idiot could understand it.

And somehow it had me weak in the knees and choking on air. If I had been standing I probably would have been besties with the floor by now.

'Tomorrow, 8am. Be ready'
