Nightmare in the Farm, Part 1

The Wern Family listen carefully to the story about the undead who attacked the mine.

Given the silence of the environment, it was easy to hear the throats gulping with concern.

"That's terrible" Emrich said with an anguished and gloomy expression "But if we go to Gelhofen, what will happen to the farm?"

"Ingrid, explain to them" were Zark's only words, as she was the expert in Necromancy, she would surely be able to give a convincing answer.

"Yes," she said after taking a spoonful of tasteless oatmeal, "if the undead are not being commanded directly, chances are high they will simply ignore the farm."

"How are you sure?" asked Hugo, Emrich's brother "the church has told us that the undead are creatures without minds"

Before answering, Ingrid took a new spoonful of the disgusting oatmeal "although your reasoning is valid for the simple undead like Zombies and Skeletons; beings like the Lich, the vampires and the mummies are something totally different "

"What do you mean?" asked with a trembling voice Anna, Hugo's wife and Marcel's mother.

Ingrid tasted the oatmeal on her palate before answering "simple, among the undead there are three categories of consciousness; the unreasonable, who are the weakest and most numerous type of undead, if not under control, are very similar to wild animals "

"Don't all the undead hate the living?" asked Heidi rhetorically, Emrich's wife and mother of Myriam and Cassandra.

"More than feeling hatred ..." Ingrid began "It is part of his primary instincts"

The four adult humans remained with a pale countenance and troubled faces.

The one who broke the tension was Marcel with an innocent question.

"Are the undead strong?"

Before the question, Ingrid showed a friendly smile before speaking "Basic Zombies and Skeletons are only slightly dangerous, all things being equal a trained human could defeat a Zombies and Skeleton if too much trouble"

"So they are not very powerful," said Marcel.

"Mistake" Ingrid pointed with her spoon towards Marcel "What I said is only for the weaker types of undead"

"In that way?"

"The simplest example would be a Poltergeis, these are spirit-type undead that among the undead possesses a medium-low power range; Like most spirit-type undead, a Poltergeis possesses the special ability of Intangibility, this means that it is immune to any non-magical effect or attack "

"How do you defeat that?"

"With magic weapons, Spells, or other magical effects, but you must be careful, because if it is not a magic weapon with the enchantment Phantom Touch or spells specialized in damaging undead, there is a 50% that your attack does not affect them"

"I just have to be careful with the spirits and that's it"

"Second mistake" Ingrid interrupted Marcel "even among the spirit-type Undead, there are weak and strong, a Poltergeis is between the medium-low ranks, for example a Banshee could kill you just with a simple scream"

Before Marcel could continue, Emrich cut off the disturbing conversation between his nephew and the young girl with a simple question.

"How do you know all that?"

The one who responded was Zark "That is irrelevant, the important thing is that they must leave the farm while this problem is solved"

"Yes ..." although Emrich suspected that there was something behind it, I cannot deny that his words were reasonable.

On the other hand, Zark allowed Ingrid to exhibit part of her knowledge in Undead because she needed to confirm that Zark's own knowledge was real, thanks to this, now he knew that all the information he has due to role-playing games were valid in this world.

After convincing them that the best option is to leave the farm, Hugo puts a bitter expression on his face.

"Emrich" Hugo started "we should talk to mo and da"

Hearing the mention of his parents, Emrich accompanied Hugo's anguished face.

"Da, we must go to Gelhofen" were the words of Emrich.

"Go to Gelhofen?" As an old man began, it was easy to discern his advanced age due to his wrinkled face and his prominent bald head. "I don't want to go to Gelhofen, I'm happy here."

"But we must go, we must leave the farm for a while."

"Are you stupid son?" the old man said contemptuously "the farm is to live on the farm."

"We will only go to Gelhofen for a while," Emrich tried to negotiate.

"But son" interrupted an old woman whose white hair exceeded "We went to Gelhofen yesterday, why are we going to come back again today?"

"Ma, Pa, a horde of the undead is approaching."

"Dead people? Who told you such nonsense? " snapped the old man.

"Some travelers Pa" were the words of Emrich "it seems that the undead attacked the mine"

"Hah, bullshit, in my day dead people had a kind habit of staying decently buried. There have been no dead people walking through this valley in the fifty years that I have lived here and I don't think they will start now. "

"Aahh" it seemed that Emrich was losing the battle to convince his parents, after a few moments, he turned his gaze to Zark, Keil and Ingrid, who were next to him "could you help me?"

"No problem" Zark start "you can prepare things together with Hugo, I will talk to your father"

"Thank you" were Emrich's only words before leaving.

To prevent anyone from snooping, Zark instructed Keil to close the door and stand guard over it.

Since the grandmother was relatively separated from the grandfather, Zark raised his hand and used "[Silence]" making all the sound in the area muffled, then he pointed his finger in the direction of the grandmother and used "[Deafness]".

"What are you doing, silly boy?" Grandpa asked contemptuously.

Without paying attention to the question, Zark muttered to himself "although I already did, I wish someone else could confirm it" and with a clear tone of voice, he addressed one of his companions "Ingrid, look for a trace of magic"

"Yes Ser"

As fast as a gazelle and as elusive as a snake, Ingrid glided past Grandfather. "[Detect Magic]" was what she used right on the old man's face.

"Get away brat" snapped Grandpa.

"I'm not a brat, I'm a lovely young girl" was Ingrid's counterattack "Father, the old man has magic, specifically level 3"

"Mmm ... That confirms it"

Before Ingrid could get away from her grandfather, he unexpectedly grasped one of Ingrid's hands. "Who are you? I'm sure you're not one of my granddaughters "roared the grandfather.

Although the old man had an intimidating look, it was not powerful enough to frighten Ingrid, for this reason he responded threateningly "How can you be so sure that I am not your granddaughter?"

"Simple, my grandchildren are too dumb to use [Detect Magic]"

"Putting that aside" Zark interrupted "I do not know your reasons for hiding your abilities, nor do I care, but I would like to consult a question with a fellow Spellcaster"

"I will not talk about witchcraft and magical things, I am too old for that"

Not caring about the old man's refusal, Zark continued speaking "if the undead are rare in this area, they somehow had to get here, do you know what that means?"

The intimidating gaze of the old man and Zark's cold eyes remained fixed for a few seconds, until the grandfather nodded and replied. "Necromancer" was the only word from him.

"Indeed" Zark started "I'm not totally sure yet, but his movements are very precise so that there is another alternative"

"An undead Lord" suggested the old man

With a slight nod, Zark replied "that is also an alternative"

As they considered what to do, there was the sound of heavy footsteps coming from outside along with a great commotion coming from the barn.

Remembering that Hugo was in that place

Emrich and Heidi not knowing anything about what was happening to each other, looked at each other.

Emrich remembering that Hugo was in the barn.

Taking the initiative and cautiously, Emrich approaches the front door, while Heidi heads for the exit door that is in the kitchen.

Looking outside, Emrich immediately slams the deck shut.

But before he was able to retreat from the door, a long spear-like object pierces the door and in the process pierces Emrich's chest.

It was a cavalry spear, a longer, thicker and heavier version of the normal spear.

The shaft that had pierced Emrich's chest had a radius of about 2 inches while the tip was made entirely of steel.

Staring as the light in his father's eyes slowly faded and he died, Myriam and Cassandra released a terrible cry of fear.

Heidi was no better than her husband, because while she was trying to block the kitchen door, she received a fatal gash in the stomach, in a useless attempt to keep her gut in her body, she held her stomach.

But the wound was too severe, she fell to the ground and she bled to death in no time, the last thing Heidi saw was how her husband was pierced by a cavalry spear.

Death not only came for Emrich and Heidi, because Hugo who was in the barn was completely dismembered by the attackers.

But Anna, who was on the second floor along with her son Marcel, had no better luck.

Anna lay on the ground in a dying state as a ghostly black mist-like creature stole her life.

The misty creature had the appearance of a being with a face with a skeleton face and hands wrapped in an all-black robe, which floated a few inches from the ground.

Marcel was unable to do anything, although he had his wooden sword, fear had petrified him.

The only thing he could do was watch as his mother, who had been knocked down, slowly died as the misty creature sucked the life out of her.

Marcel watched as his mother's skin slowly dried until it was in a state similar to Cecina, her eyes were slightly protruding from her sockets and were completely gray and lacking in color.

The last thing Anna saw before she died, was how her son petrified by fear watched her die, before falling into the abyss of darkness that was death, a last tear came out of one of her eyes as she raised a prayer to any god that he could hear her in which she pleaded for the salvation of her son.
