I ran as fast as my legs could carry me down the hall to the room Cloey was supposed to be in.
They released me from the room as per Hannah's request, I was not allowed to try and stop them or follow them but to be honest they were the farthest things from my mind as of that moment. I just needed Cloey to be okay.
I quickly opened the door and ran over to an unconscious Cloey. "Cloey?!" I shook her back and forth but she refused to wake up. I ran my hands through my hair and tears immediately started streaming down my face.
"Why are you crying?"
My eyes widened, "Cloey?" She slowly got up and rubbed her head, "Ow." I thoroughly checked her from head to tie, "You're okay." She shrugged, "Pretty much, I did take a hit to the head though."
That lying bastard. He must be looking so smug right now. I pulled Cloey into a hug, "I'm so so sorry Cloey, I put you in so much unnecessary danger." She pulled away from me and smiled, "We're a team Katie, don't you ever forget that."
She looked around, "So, where are we again?" I shrugged, "I have no idea, you were outside for a while did you recognize anything while you were running?" She placed her fingers on her chin, "There was one road, a very long road."
I stared at her waiting on her to continue. She scrunched her eyebrows, "What?" I facepalmed, "That's it?"
"Yea, so basically we are in the middle of nowhere." I got in my thinking pose, "What time is it now?" Cloey shrugged, "Pretty late?"
I rolled my eyes and paced around the room, "When we got to The Wicked Bunny, it was a little after six in the evening. We stayed in their for about an hour or so before we got kidnapped. It's still night time now which means we didn't go far since it didn't take us long to get here. The drugs I inhaled didn't have much adverse effects on my body so I'm guessing it's a basic knock out drug which most likely lasts for 3 hours max."
Hayley placed her right fist in her palm, "So, what you are saying is we are basically still in Hanson?" I nodded, "Precisely."
I started pacing back and forth again, "There aren't many woodland areas in Hanson so it's easier to break down exactly where we are." I tapped my chin, "Based on my calculations, we are either at Rundle Cherry Farm or Little Farm."
Cloey latched onto my arm, "Weren't the Little family burned alive in their house?"
I gasped, "Cloey, you're a genius!"
She gave me a puzzled look, "I am? I mean, of course I am. Why am I genius again?" "The Little family were burned alive in their house. This house doesn't have any burn marks which means we are certainly at Rundle Cherry Farm."
"Isn't that a few kilometers away from the bar?" I nodded, "Yup."
After wandering around for a while, we finally found the exit. The house was pretty old but beyond the cobwebs and dust I could imagine a glamorous mansion, beautifully decorated with paintings of all sizes and the most exotic flowers.
I sighed, so much money gone to waste.
Cloey pointed out into the dark with a trembling hand, "We're not going out there are we?" I grinned, "Of course we are. What's the problem, are you scared of a little darkness?" Cloey looked away, "Of course not, I was just wondering. I don't think it's a good idea to go out there at this hour, it's dangerous. Anything could be waiting for us in the woods."
I rose a brow, "What could be waiting for us?"
She whispered, "Werewolves, vampires and other beasts could be out there." I burst out in laughter, "That's enough Webnovel for you Cloey." She pursed her lips, "I'm serious Katie."
I wiped an invisible tear from my eye, "We are more likely to be kidnapped by aliens than to be attacked by werewolves and vampires." She groaned, "Not this again." We got into a long argument about why aliens are real and werewolves and vampires are not and vice versa.
A shuffling in the bushes while we were walking cut our argument short. Cloey latched onto my arm, "It's the beast of the night." The beast of what now? I slid her hand off my arm, "It's probably just a rabbit, calm down." She widened her eyes, "It's the middle of the night Katie, the only rabbit that would be out at this hour is the vampire rabbit, Bunnicula."
"Bunnicula? Isn't that a cartoon?"
"All movies and cartoons are related to real life Katie, don't let them fool you." Yep, she has officially gone off the deep end. My eyes widened when I saw a person, at least I think it's a person, run from behind one tree to the other.
Hayley latched onto my arm again, "You saw that too right?" I slowly nodded. Hayley shook my arm, "Now do you believe me?" I folded my arms, "Our minds are clearly playing tricks on us. We haven't eaten since evening and we're both tired which is why we're seeing things."
We then heard footsteps making it's way towards us. Cloey turned to me, "Any logical explanation to explain that?" I shook my head, this seriously cannot be real. "What do we do now Katie?"
"Now, we run!"
We took off in the direction where the old house was. The footsteps behind us got closer and closer the faster we ran. Neither of us dared to turn around.
My right foot suddenly slipped into a crack in the road.
I tried pulling it out myself but it wouldn't budge. Cloey, completely consumed with fear and adrenaline, kept on running. She was completely oblivious to the dilemma I was in. For the first time, I took a glance at the figure that was chasing us. It was hooded and was coming towards me at full speed.
I tried harder to pull my foot from the crack but all was in vain. I screamed as the hooded figure extended his hands towards my helpless body.
