"Don't go into the light."

I tried opening my eyes and moving, but my body refused to cooperate with me. There was a stinging sensation on my arm and I slightly flinched.

The muffled voices around me stopped the second I started moving, and I felt someone gently patting my face while calling out to me.

"Katie? Katie?" worriedly called a female voice.

I recognized the voice and forced my eyes to open. My eyes opened into small slits and the sudden bright light that appeared in my face gave me the impression that I was dead and not staying away from the light like I was supposed to.

Don't go into the light, they'd always say.

Three blurry figures were in my line of sight and no matter how many times I blinked, the image remained the same...dark, muffled, and blurry.

I clenched my eyes shut and whoever held onto my hand squeezed it even tighter. "Sweetie, stay awake...please," pleaded the familiar voice.
