The Eternal Void

September XX, 20XX

" Class, does anyone remember what the anti-derivative of cos is?" Mr. Stein questioned the class while looking around to see if there were any volunteers.

Seeing no volunteers, Mr. Stein selected a poor young man near the back of the class.

" Uh, is it a negative sin?" The poor young man answered timidly.

The teacher shook his head and said: " That would be the case if we were trying to find the derivative of cos. However, for finding the anti-derivative, we need to think backward."

The teacher turned around to his whiteboard; started to write the way to find the answer on the board.

Next to the poor young man was Edwin Murray. Edwin Murray, just like his appearance, was the delinquent who did poorly in class; Dressed in regular black street clothes that were against school policy.

But everyone ignores him because they can't be bothered to correct him for the umpteenth time.

' Shit! How the hell do people memorize this shit! It's just a bunch of numbers and letters!' Edwin taking a glance at the board laid his head down and tried to catch some sleep.

*Crunch*

'Huh, what was that?' Edwin thought before deciding that it was probably someone eating chips or something.

*Crunch, Crunch, Crunch*

After repeatedly hearing the thunderous and crunching sounds, Edwin lifted his to look for the person who's making all that noise.

The first thing to attract his attention was Betty Earling, the class representative standing straight up. Betty was the person who hounded him whenever he skipped class and also a previous childhood friend back in the day.

" Why is it so quiet? Is the lecture done? Wait, what's wrong with Betty." Edwin looking at Betty's eyes; saw emotions that he never saw appear on her face before. There was only one emotion in her eyes.

Fear.

There was endless fear leaking from her to the point that she's paralyzed stuff.

* Crunch Crunch Crunch!!!.....Rip*

The thunderous sounds drew Edwin's attention away from Betty. What he saw was something he would never be able to forget until his death.

In front of the class where the teacher previously stood was a warped space. Space became so warped that it was fracturing. No, it was ripping apart.

" What the F**k!" Edwin, unable to contain himself, blurted out, breaking the silence.

" Ahhh!" Following Edwin: panic arose as every student in the classroom began to scream with some backing up and falling because they rammed into chairs and tables.

As if hearing their screams, the warped beyond compare space, completely and utterly shattered, leaving a gaping void.

An unimaginable suction dragged everyone and everything in the classroom into the void.

A black nothingness darker and vaster than outer space surrounded Edwin. It was a strange place. Next to Edwin was Betty, who was reaching out to touch him.

Edwin noticed her: responded by reaching his hand; however, it seemed no matter how close they were, they couldn't grasp one another.

Behind Edwin, he could see the hole that they came from shrinking, closing up. The force continued to pull them to something or somewhere.

Attempting once more to reach Betty's hand: Edwin did everything in his power to close the short yet seamlessly uncrossable gap.

Eventually, the hand's touch, but what he felt wasn't Betty's warm hands. No, he felt a warm stickiness on his hands as he saw Betty turn into blood fog.

' They're dead.' Edwin spoke with despair; no sound came out.

' I can't trust what I see in this place. One moment they're alive; the next, they're frozen corpses. No more accurately, they have been dead for a long time. It's just I saw their living self from the past.'

As the creeping realization hit Edwin, he entered into a different space and time.
