Chapter 4- Success?

"What type of quest is this?" Leo read the notification that popped in front of his eyes and wondered what would happen if he failed.

"No. I can't think that I'll fail before even starting," he thought, and no way he would give up. He had lived IRL without his sigh, so learning how to enchant was easy compared to that.

"So, hear me out, Leo. First, you'll need to decide what enchantment you want to put on your weapon. There are tons of different enchantments available, and it depends on your preference and what item you're enchanting. For example, I'll teach you the sharping enchantment to add in that rusty dagger, it does what the names suggest, it sharpens the item. It works for weapons, but you'll not be able to use this enchantment into armor or a bow for example." Alistair was explaining to Leo some things about how to enchant. He wanted to see how Leo would perform and only gave him the basics so that he could see if Leo had talent or not.

"Now, the part where I'll explain to you how to create this enchantment, pay attention," Alistar said, grabbing a blank paper from his desk.

"All enchantments are based on drawings. Each enchantment has its drawing form, and if you want your enchantment to work, you'll need to draw it perfectly. The difficulty of the drawing will depend solely on the enchantment level. Stronger enchantment will be difficult and vice-versa. One thing to keep in mind, the enchantment success will also depend on your attributes, the higher your wisdom, and dexterity, the higher the chances of succeeding," Alistair gave a lot of information to Leo, who was listening carefully to not lose anything.

"And one thing that is magical about enchanting, you can create your enchantment. I have created one of my own. One day perhaps I let you study it," he said to Leo.

Alistair was proud of his work. He managed to create his enchantment, which was something difficult. This fact proved how talented and hardworking he was.

"I think I understood. One question. After I finish the drawing as you said, what then?" Leo asked.

"I'll explain that to you later. First, watch carefully the sharp enchantment drawing. I'll only draw it once for you," Alistar picked up a paintbrush and started to draw the enchant.

The patterns were strange, Leo couldn't understand any of them, but they looked magical. It had perfect circles and lines that were all parallel. The whole thing looked perfect. Every inch was calculated, and missing by one millimeter could ruin your entire enchant.

"The way he draws it, beautiful. This old man did this his entire life for sure," Leo thought.

"Done. Beautiful, isn't it?" Alistair said after finishing.

"It is," Leo said.

"Now, focus on copying this symbol perfectly. If you succeed, I'll teach you the next steps." Alistair said.

Leo then started his attempts at creating the drawing. He thought, at first, that this would be easy, but he was mistaken. To create all those lines and perfect circles, and add in top of those some strange patterns and letters, was truly harsh.

"Damn it, it's my who knows attempt, and I didn't make it," he was frustrated that after many tries, he couldn't perform the drawing.

Alistair laughed internally watching Leo. Alistair saw that Leo was doing well, better than him when he started, but Leo had no reference about what was good or bad in that regard.

"Take your time, Leo. This part is difficult and crucial. You can have every ingredient to perform the enchantment, but if your draw is wrong, then it will fail."

"It's easy for you to say, you know how to do it. I'm not bad at drawing, but this is beyond my capabilities," Leo laid his head down, ashamed.

"Don't give up. Did you watch all your drawings?" Alistair smiled.

Leo hasn't done that. He was so focused on drawing non-stop that he didn't pay attention to the works he had done. He grabbed all the papers and put them in order of creation, and he was stunned. The improvement was visible, and he was almost getting close to Alistair's draw.

"I'm improving a lot, but look at how many draws I have. I'm sure I'm untalented in this field," Leo said.

"You think that? Let me tell you a secret, it took me three months to get into the same level as you're right now."

"What?" Leo started to ponder. Perhaps the players had an advantage on learning the professions, and that would make sense. Some NPCs take years in-game to reach some level, yet players achieve it a lot sooner, maybe it was the same with life skills.

Leo didn't stop for a moment, and eventually, he succeeded in creating the perfect draw. Alistair saw everything and was speechless. Leo had mastered the basic enchantment in a couple of hours, and that was beyond impressive.

"Now, let me explain to you the next steps. You'll need the enchantment draw, that one you just did, and the item you want to enchant. The draw acts like an activator. It activates the enchantment power, but you'll get the energy from somewhere. Usually, you'll use parts of monsters as power sources, but it must match the level of your enchantment. For example, this enchantment that you just did is at the beginner level, so you'll need a weak beast to create it. I'm not saying that you couldn't use a dragon's teeth to create this enchantment, but that would only be a loss. You would need to draw a stronger enchantment to make good use of the dragon's teeth, for example. And you can't draw a strong enchantment and try to use some bad power source, it won't work," Alistair said.

"But how will I hunt beasts if I'm weak in combat?" Leo asked.

"Well, you can use your enchanted weapons to fight. You'll surprise by how stronger the items get when you apply an enchantment to them. Or you could just buy the power source from the market, enchant, and then sell the item for profit, that's what I do." Alistair answered Leo's question, clearing his mind.

"Now, try to enchant that rusty dagger I gave you." Alistair crossed his arms and watched me.

The rusty dagger was on Leo's inventory, he picked it up and place it on the table. The drawing was beneath it, and the power source was given to him. Alistair used a wolf's tooth, a level 3 monster.

Leo set everything up on their correspondent spot, and a message popped.

Do you want to apply the Sharp Enchantment on the [Rusty Dagger]?

"Yes."
