Chapter twenty-one

Elena picked her ringing phone from the call and covered the pot to let the rice she was cooking to boil. "Hey Lu, how are you?" she asked enthusiastically.

"Elena you will not believe it. Guess what?" Lucy babbled from the other end of the connection.

"The only thing I can guess right now is that you are pregnant." She smiled at Regan who just entered the kitchen smelling of shaving cream and soap. He walked over to her and pulled her by the waist and placed a tempting kiss on her lips.

Lucy on the other end heard the smacking sound and whined, "don't get all mushy on me brother, I can hear you."

"Don't get jealous, sister." He laughed.

"Please get a room."

"Lu, you tend to forget that I am in my house." He teased.

Lucy was about to retort when Elena pushed Regan away and said, "Lu, don't forget why you called. You and Reggie can banter later." The smile on her lips deepened as he pulled her back to his front and kissed her on the ear. She squirmed away from him and signalled for him to carry on with the cooking as she had a call to take. He sent her a wink and she smiled and continued with her call.

"Lucy, what were you saying?" she put the phone on speaker because she knew that Regan would surely want to hear from his sister.

"So… I set up a nursery!" she exclaimed.

"Oh my God, I'm happy for you." happiness radiated in Elena's voice.

"Are you pregnant already? That was really quick, wasn't it a month ago that you and Zeke left?" Regan commented from the cooking station.

"Reggie. I'm really worried for you." she said with a tired sigh, "We are still working on it. But I just got really excited and set up the place. Zeke said I'm hyped up."

"How is Zeke?" Regan asked.

"He is okay. He left for work already. Sends his regards though." She replied lazily.

"How about I come over tomorrow and check out the baby's crib?" Elena asked and passed a glance at Regan who was now frying the potatoes.

"That is exactly what I wanted to hear." Lucy squealed in excitement. It wasn't that Zeke was a boring husband or a kill-joy, but it felt better sharing these kind of things with females. And only Elena would understand her joy, knowing how much she loved and wanted children.

"I'll call you later. I have to join Reggie now. He can't cook the rice and peel the eggs at the same time." Elena said, wanting to get back to Regan.

"Women that have men that know how to cook are literally God's favourite people. Anyways I'll be waiting for your call. Bye Reggie, bye-bye Elena. I love you." and with that she disconnected the call.

She dropped the phone and walked over to the rice pot to check it. She brought it off the burner seeing it was done and then she started peeling the eggs that she had earlier placed in cold water. "Will you come with me to see the nursery tomorrow?"

"I don't think I can make it. I know tomorrow is Sunday and I have some really important work but I'll come and pick you up." The potato cubes were fried enough now and he drained them with paper towels. He started preparing the sauce for the Arroz Tapado.

She took the spatula from him and said, "Go and get dressed for work, you'll be late. It'll be ready before you're done."

"I'm the boss and I can go whenever I want." He said, hugging her from behind as she stirred the pan.

"You know you'll be giving your clients a bad reputation of yourself." She said snuggling into his hard chest.

"They are not going to be the only people to wed in America, perle. I want to stay with you." he purred into the crook of her neck.

She rested the spatula on the counter top and turned around to face him, "Now you listen to me, Regan William Leroy. You will go to work and attend to those customers, did I make myself clear?"

With a reluctant groan, he left the kitchen to get dressed. When he came back, they had breakfast and he left for work.
