Chapter 1.9: Missing the Pieces

Secured. We were secured. The table wall held up good enough and with someone checking and patrolling, it was safe. They cleared the classroom beside ours estimating around 24 or us and exceedingly more than I thought.

I brought the bag and pulled out the food. Annie was thankful and had the food moved to the food corner, the lockers, to keep them counted and protected.

Pulling down the skirt that was too short for me. I checked the other classroom with Ali and Autumn. Ali is a 2nd Year Class E and Autumn the girl is helped and dragged was a 1st year Class C who was still shakened up. Ali took upon herself to help her so she's starting to grasp the atmosphere but still won't talk much.

The sky was getting darker already ,6:42pm showed on the phone. The sky turned reddish orange almost like an omen. Tristan and Zane covered the lights with more cloth making it dim enough as possible for both rooms.

Grey tapped me on my shoulder which startled me. We weren't close but we didn't hate each other either. Just neutral.

"You seems to still have a lot of things in your mind, I'm doing patrols on the fire exit too. It should be quiet enough. "His hands tucked back in his pocket and he didn't have a commanding voice either, More like a request. I nodded and followed him.

Matt was sitting on the stairs of the emergency exit but he smiled and left as soon as we got there. Must be exhausted. I took his sitting spot and watched as Grey covered the exit doors for each floor level with more curtains.

"Where'd all the clothes and curtains come from?" I asked my head resting on the railing following him up and down the stairs.

"Maison, Matt and I tried getting resources from the other room. We took as much as we could while someone made noise by the stairs."

"We managed to clear the entire 4th floor but we haven't gotten to moving the wall yet."

Maison?, I knew Maison he was the best in Math when it came to our class, had a crush on me during our first year too but ended up with someone in another class.

"I haven't seen Maison by the way, It's getting late too ", He patted my head and that was unexpected for Greyson to do, tapping on my forehead then getting a close up.

"I brought you here to clear your head, Stop asking already ",My face heated up and my ears were burning, His Face was so close to me. He bumped his forehead on mine and proceeded to lean on the railing looking out.

I looked down the fire exit. The gate on the ground was closed ,It had an arched wall railing which prevented anyone from just climbing over it up to the first floor. Grey suddenly stood up straight and went down, when I looked to where he had checked and I saw it.

Following him racing down the stairs, He opens the gate on the bottom floor and Ocean came through with someone on his back. They were being followed by two.

"Maison here yet?" Ocean asked adjusting the body on his back.

"What ?No!" Grey kicked one of them down and stomp on the head ,As he closed the door I heard him hiss and slam the other one with the door kicking it down before stomping on it.He locked it back and went back pushing me up.

"Did you get hurt? "I asked looking at him and his arms but he pulled it back.

"Just get back up-" I held his hand near the wrist and he hissed again, I pulled his arms and checked. Scratches.

I stared onto it for a good amount of time before he pulls it back. Ocean must have already reached the 4th floor when Grey cornered me on the wall. His eyes were dark.

He held my cheek and caressed it, I reached for his hand and he stills. I rubbed my face in his hand.

"I won't tell yours, If you Don't tell mine" I already knew that he saw the scratch on my ankle. His eyes landed on my ankle when I got in the room and when Leah was with me. Holding on his wrist he hissed which reminded me of his wound. I'm sorry, I whispered as I held his palm instead. His forehead found mine while I stare on his palm.

He whispered something before pulling away from me and walking back to the 3rd floor to 'patrol'. I dazed but regained myself back, by a few while it was already dark and Grey pulled me back upstairs. His hand in his pocket.

Ali came forth for me and dragged me to the other room and showing a corner with bags and a training mat placed out. I sat down and pressed on the mat, It was comfy enough ,better than the cold floor too. Areas were sectioned off to look like rooms using remaining chairs and sheets.

"You found our corner "I looked up and saw Leah smiling tell me we were mat buddies for the night but she'll have to wake up at 3am to take patrol checks on the desk wall.

Carmen then came rolling around the door with a few snacks saying it was dinner. She seems happy to distribute the food though it wasn't appetizing as a proper meal having snacks before bed was good enough. I knocked out soon after.

=============================

Matt

I left Grey with Ash thinking they could have a proper conversation for once. Maybe get them close. Leaving them at the emergency exit. Maison hasn't come back yet which worried me.

His annoying laugh and jumping personality really didn't fit his appearance. He was 5'10 and deep voice but was an utter puppy. We'd been together for a month now since he'd answer me.

I heard loud chattering and then hears Ocean's voice.'They're back' I thought while going through the bodies of students just to find Ocean with Olsen on his back sweating like crazy, No bite marks or scratches.

"We still don't know how they transmit but he didn't had any signs of cuts or bites but he had symptoms", I held down the wrist and tied it off just in case.

Annie came running and moving Olsen, Gagged him before placing him in a training mat. She looked at me and nodded.

The 2nd Year took turns nursing him, he didn't turn yet which was a good sign but he was still shaking and convulsing. Hands were running cold but was running a fever. I stood up and gave some space, Ashley came back with Grey in towed. He looks happier ,maybe a little livelier.

He came towards me ,nearly pulled me by my collar. "He hasn't come back yet?", I knew who he referred to, I shook my head ,my arms crossed and with a sigh "He should have returned with Ocean, but even he doesn't know" Maybe he got stuck somewhere but my thoughts kept wandering to the worst circumstances.

Leah approached us with sweat on her forehead, she had Annie and Ocean behind her.

Following her we went to a section that was divided by the chairs, a room is what we call it, to give privacy and for specifically the observation team.

"Nessie, you can go get a snack. I'll let them know" She replied cheerfully and left, Leah made us look out the curtains and explained that they haven't moved for the past 30mins. She pointed towards the side of the building where there was a solar powered light post near the teacher's parking.

"They only moved towards that direction but we can't see if it's because someone passed by, but they haven't moved after a while" The wind was fairly cold but she's right they haven't moved,

"Your saying they can't see in the dark", Grey broke the silence followed by Annie that seems to agree.

"It's a good opportunity for us if they're blind during the night but we'll be just as equally blind", Ocean made a point it was just as bad for us, Especially the ones in corners.

"For instance, If someone were to have a flashlight would they attack the holder too? And how dark should it be for them to be blind? "Annie thought for a moment, Grey sighed and went out abruptly.

I followed him out ,He looks frustrated

"What do you think your doing Grey?"I asked but he turned around and almost sounded like a growl.

"Going out to look for Maison, He might be your boyfriend but he's my cousin", He swatted my hand and I stepped back. I tried reasoning with him but only managed to convince him to wait the next day. We weren't even sure if their observation was right. Carmen came out the room and called for Grey ,annoyed at me he agreed and left. I looked down on my feet, Maison. Please be safe.
