Chapter 2.5: They call me a Monster

Grey

I carried her onto my back. Her thighs turning bluish and veins crawl onto her skin.

Zombies rush towards me from the clear hallway. I couldn't move my feet planted to the ground, Closer and closer

Aaahhhhh!!!

I stood steady on my feet with Ash on my back. I'm alive? No. They ignored me.The crimson stream of blood wasn't ours.

I look on the blood connected to the student to my side being devoured. His skin and flesh being torn.

Help. Help.

His hands reaching out as it gets grabbed and crunched with bones popping out of place. I looked away and walked, I didn't know where to go but I followed the stairs.

Ashley moans behind my ear.

"Don't go Ash"

Grabbing into her thigh and adjusting her to my back. More of them came to view but they ignored us. My arm burns maybe from the weight but I carried on.

I start to notice a pattern in the movement of the dead. They follow sound as well as footsteps, So they come in pairs of two or three. I haven't seen a lone zombie as I carry through.

Once I reached the lowest floor. It was obvious that the front door wasn't an option. They went in pairs but the front door had a whole cluster of them limping around one area of the main door to the other.

I gulped and proceeded down. They followed onto my footsteps and nearly lunged themselves infront of my way but they completely ignored me.

I heard a shout and they all lunged to the sound banging to the main door. It wouldn't open though. They pushed me towards the door but I moved away and managed to slip away.

Carrying forth to the teacher's lounge and layed Ash on one of the couch.

I looked outside the curtained window and saw a group of 3 fighting and shouting. All guys. I looked to the fire exit and saw one of the lookouts hiding from survivor views. Those guys in the open space didn't last long.

It made sense ,we couldn't horde survivors since we're already in a tight situation in terms of food and supplies. That's why we had to cover the windows and dim the lights so the survivors won't horde to our hideout. I heard my girl groan from behind.

Ash shifted on the couch and was sweating too much, I had to remove her sweater and unbutton two buttons and remove her socks. However, I stopped as soon as I saw clearly the veins on her legs. The vein looked black and connected to her wound but she wasn't bleeding , she isn't turning either.

I held her hand and sat beside her. I knew that she liked someone else and that someone was Matt, I wish I had at least shown to her I cared or told her I liked her and would have taken care of her better than my best friend ,but I couldn't when her eyes always shine when he talks to her while she was always passive to me.

Holding her hand in both my hand and wished that she wouldn't turn. Even if she did I wouldn't care if it was her who kills me right now.I sighed under my breath.

"Please Ash, I-I haven't even.Please if there's a God there, Don't take her yet."

We haven't had much conversation yet until the start of the apocalypse and I doubt I would had the courage to go up to her.

My pocket vibrated and I almost forgot about the phones. Matt was calling so I picked up.

"Hey, We're safe. No she's exhausted so I told her to sleep on the couch in the lounge. I know there's a lot of them here but we got here safely. Yes, I'll take care of her.... I found-No, wait it's nothing" The line goes quiet before it dropped. Looking at her I can see why someone like her would like Matt.

Matt and I have been friends and neighbors for a long time. He has always been a good friend and brother to me but I feel a certain jealousy towards him when it came to her. Even now, He asked how she's doing and if she was awake she would have enthusiastically taken the call.

I stood up and walked around the lounge.Fairly large, So this is where most of our tuition go to. To be fair it was convinient that the lounge had a mini kitchen corner with a coffee machine, a mini fridge, aside from all the teacher's desk and printers.

I opened up a cabinet and took a mug to have a fair share of use of that coffee brewer. The fridge had left over lunch and cabinets to my surprise had seasonings like vinegar and tomato sauce.

Is this like a teacher camping in school thing? I even got one of the school club bus keys.

I checked the time and it wasn't even 11am yet. I could check on the clinic infront of the lounge and maybe get something for my hand.I put the coffee mug down and got a new brew near Ash before going out.

The corridor was eerie and the dead were all positioned infront of the building entrance. They still haven't gotten out?

The sliding door to the clinic creeked taking the attention of 2 or 3 of them as they roam to my direction.

Blood painted with white everywhere. The nurse looked mawled with barely anything from her face intact , an arm popping out a bone on the left and a dislocated leg. I would have looked away if the keys to the cabinets weren't infront of her corpse.

Checking under the tables and cabinets I found a duffel bug with....Ehem, underwear inside a box with a message "Happy Anniversary" on top of . I didn't know what to pick from the cabinets so I Picked up the phone and I checked if the internet still worked , happily it did.

Grabbing alcohol pads ,bandages, splints, needles and whatever I found to be useful which was almost everything except for the ones in broken bottles and syringes. I looked the other cabinets that also had menstruation pads and gloves.

Cutting myself a few times from some of the shards but aside from the burning feeling in my hand it almost felt like nothing compared to it.

I should drop some of these in the lounge then get the other ones. I still don't understand why they don't attack me but it's a perk if I can protect the girl in the other room.

She was sitting up when I got back, her mouth on her hand. I almost dropped the medicine in my bag by dropping the whole bag.

I placed the bag gently on the floor before running off to her to remove her hand on her mouth, She was crying and wouldn't let go. The moment her mouth was unoccupied she said something that made held her wrists up the head pinning her to the wall.

Ashley

My senses came back groggily and one by one, the smell of blood made me hungry . It was driving insane, I couldn't see any blood but I craved the scent.

I had no choice but to bite on my hand ,crying I was hungry but wpuldn't crave food. Always hungry but never enough.

Grey came in stopping by his tracks, The smell of blood opened up even more that I had to bite deeper on my hand. Grey suddenly came one-on-one on me forcing me to remove my mouth from my hand. I saw him bleed and I pushed him away warning him

"Get away before I bite"His hands suddenly took both my wrist and my back made contact with the wall.

"I don't care if you bite me now",His forehead touched mine ,our breath was one.

"I'd rather turn if it was you"and before I could reply he placed his bleeding hand on my mouth and I bit on it.Hard and Deep. He winced from pain as more blood dripped from his palms. His leg between my thigh and tears running across my face.He kissed my forehead and looked at my eyes, he didn't let go.

I'm a monster. Nothing more than a monster.

Grey

I was already infected so if she bites me she's just speeding up my death too. I don't care as long as it's her, her eyes tremble and she cries until she let's go of my hand.

Sshhh, I caressed her head. Picking her up from the chin I made her look at me then I placed my lips on hers, tounge fighting and kissing deeper. I hear her moan and her hand grips the back of my shirt. I picked her up and wrapped her legs on my waist moving her to a desk.

The moment our lips parted she panted and looked me in the eyes.

"If you turn, I turn. I don't care Ash, I really don't care about anything but you", I sealed her lips again with mine before she could even reply leaving her breathless. My Lips crawling onto her neck and sucking on them.

"Grey,Please Stop"I hear her pant but I continue to nip on her neck and collarbone until she was pushing me away.

"Don't go Ash"I pleaded and hugged her in the end my head on her chest.

"How long- How long did you like me?"Her arm covered her eyes but I knew she was crying again.

"Years",since we were in different classes in our primary school. I always liked her to the point that I'd leave candies under her desk but she switched during middle school and then senior year came we were in the same class for 4 years.

She still is the girl in my dreams. I would never want anyone else again.
