- A year after the Revolt-1 incident -
Seth has fully recovered from his past event which made him lost his family and currently attending a military academy on Kaxon-8, one of the second-rate planets in HSU's colony. He resumes his previous study which has to end in his third year because his school already became ruins on his home planet. Now he tries to enroll at the HSU military as a recruit.
The military test on Kaxon-8 is on another level compared to a third-rate planet like where he was living his life at. He prepares to study the general knowledge subject which is his nemesis. He can barely pass his yearly test last year and he doesn't have much confidence that he can easily pass military ones which have a higher standard.
Contrarily to his general knowledge, he's quite confident on his physical fitness test. He always gets flying colors on that subject. He doesn't know it actually caused by a mutation that going on inside his body. For as long as he remembers, the most bizarre thing that happens on his body is his eyes' vision. He doesn't know how it happens that way but his vision shows him any data on anything he takes look at.
He can take a look at enemy statistics like you can in a game. It's called the status window. He tries to check his own stats before he goes for his entrance test. "Status," he says inside his mind.
Name: Seth Avant
Race: Humanoid cyborg
Strength: 10
Agility: 10
Vitality: 10
Eyesight: 1
Intelligence: 1
Wisdom: 1
Skill: Rapid Evolution (Passive)
Seth sighs after he took a look at his status. I remain stagnant for a year now. According to Dr. Ernest Brendan's explanation, even though he's capable of evolving his cells faster than human normally does, he needs to replace his core with alien core to mutate his body using alien DNA as his evolution trigger. It's extremely expensive for a normal civil like him, around 10 million HSU dollars.
Taking that factor into account, probably he needs half of his life working a normal job such as a salaryman. The fastest way to evolve himself is actually by mutating himself using alien core which he hunts himself on the void. That's going to be beneficial for him if he can get into territorial expansion division on the HSU army. At least he needs to pay for nothing to get the loot he wants.
Even though alien core priced at 25% of the whole carcass, its function is still not explored enough with human current technology. Their meat also has no function needed too so it's often treated as waste. Their bone and shell usually being used as metal components use on modern aircraft or battleships. That's why they have an exorbitant price tag.
Seth dejectedly walking into the auditorium hall where they hold a writing test at. He can't help but feels nervous about it. His body may be stronger than a normal human but his mind is still trapped on human capability.
- Inside auditorium hall -
Seth takes his test question on a flash drive. Then he plugs it into his comm to connect its data into his comm. Well, it's impossible to cheat at this age. Every comm link is only accessible for its owner. Unless the owner dies and you crack its encryption, you can't access it normally. That's why Seth is feeling down on his writing test.
He looks at his test sheet. Shortly after, he sighs, "This is a pain in the a**!" He looks at his answer but he's not sure about how he's doing there. His best score is 25 out of 100. "I'll do my best at my physical and practical test then. I hope I can somehow pass this test."
- Gymnasium -
"Finally it starts," Seth gets excited in his mind. Those remaining 2 subjects are his specialties after all. He goes to one of the waiting lines available to recruit candidates. He gets into the gym quite late that's the reason why he has to wait for 50+ people before him. Every line has an almost identical number of people queueing.
While waiting he uses his time to scan the other candidates around him. There are a little over a thousand people who attend this recruitment test. It's going to be tough even for those who have a connection that works for the government or the military. It's everyone's game, to be honest. He notices several military descendants who attend this event. Those people are the Reinhart family grandson, Sapphire family 3rd daughter, Wyse 2nd son, etc.
He tries to take a peek at their status since it's not normal for a regular human to be able to see someone else's status as you can see in a game. Thus he needs to ask no permission to take a look. At least no one knows that he cheats on this part. Their stats are above average human. It's not hard for those wealthy family to lay their hand on genetic enhancer serum after all.
"Theoretically I can safely enroll into the military without much difficulty. I have to try harder if I want to get into a seeded spot that only has 10 spots available this year," He thinks hard about his future. He has a guarantee that he will get into the military like other normal people but to get direct promotion into a sergeant straight away is another story. He's convinced that he messed his writing test. It's like a big labyrinth of theory on a sheet of test with only several questions.
He takes a better look at Reinhart's grandson, Elioth Reinhart. He has a balanced status which is pretty much what most people don't have. It isn't bad to have it that way genuinely. That's the most preferable status for military trainees because they can develop based on their specialty after they get into military recruitment. Elioth manages to out best most of the other applicants too. It's not that surprising for him because Elioth has 1.6 times the stats of normies have. It motivates him to do better than other contestants.
