CH 6: TOO QUIET

LAURA took KAYDEN to his room and closed the door as they entered. LAURA made him stand beside the closed door and went to his walk-in closet. She randomly chose a pair of plain royal blue silk pyjamas for him and came out. She placed them on the bed and thought of something for a few seconds.

"Wait a minute here. I'll be back."

By saying this she left the room. She didn't closed the door completely while thinking of KAYDEN'S condition.

Soon after she came back with a transparent plastic bag.

"Take this and dispose your clothes in it."

She said while forwarding it towards KAYDEN.

KAYDEN caster a glance towards the bag and with trembling hands he took it from his mother's hands.

Laura took the pyjamas and put them inside the bathroom. She came out from the bathroom in a few seconds.

"Go. Take a warm shower."

KAYDEN looked at his mother with teary eyes.

"I'll be waiting here."

Laura said.

KAYDEN took heavy steps and went inside the bathroom and closed the door behind.

Laura sighed heavily and sat at the right side of the bed. In front of her was a huge floor to ceiling window. She looked out. It was really dark outside but a little moonlight made it able to see the shadows of trees while the leaves move along the wind. Usually such scene make a person to feel calm but all she could feel was bitterness and coldness. Her heart was not calm. Not calm at all. If one could see in her eyes right now, they would see how disappointed she was right now. Her mind was a total mess. No matter how many times she sighed, she just couldn't feel calm at all.

She saw at her phone's screen and after thinking for a few seconds she dialed a number. The bell rang but no one answered. She continuously tried again and again but it didn't connect. Everytime it just went to the voice mail. She sighed with frustration and threw the phone on the bed.

In the bathroom, KAYDEN was just standing still under the warm water. He was staring as the water washed out the red blood from his body and dyed the water in the floor red. He stood there for almost half an hour before he heard someone calling him followed by a knock.

"KAYDEN?"

'tk, tk, tk'

........

In the room, it was already half an hour and KAYDEN was still inside. She got a bit worried and called out to him.

After a little while the door opened and KAYDEN came out in his plain pyjamas. His hair still wet. Water droplets falling on his face and pyjamas. He was looking like an innocent and miserable kid who was just bullied by someone. By seeing this LAURA dragged him towards the dressing table and made him sit on the chair in front of it. She took out the hair dryer from the left most lower drawer and connected it to the plug. She started drying his hair. The whole room was quiet only the ear piercing sound of hair dryer could be heard. KAYDEN was just stating downwards blankly. He was too quiet. This made Laura more worried but she couldn't manage out any word of sympathy to calm him. She was just continuously thinking what to say.

After drying his hair she could only manage out to say.

"Sleep now."

KAYDEN while hearing the command from his mother, obediently stood and went to bed. Before he could lay down Laura suddenly said.

"Wait!"

Laura took out a tablet from a small bottle that she already placed on bedside table.

"Take this before you sleep."

KAYDEN quietly took the medicine. Before Laura could hand him the glass of water he already swallowed it and laid down.

Laura looked at him but didn't say anything and placed the glass back on the table. The both knew that without the sleeping pills it was impossible to sleep. Laura covered him with the thick blanket and sat beside him. She caressed his hair to provide him a sense of protection. Soon the medicine took affect and she felt KAYDEN's body and breath relaxed.
