Chapter 27: The Love of a Mother

Jake stood outside the doors of the manor for longer than he had intended to. Mimi had left him standing there and made her way back to Gale and the town what felt like ages ago. He was sure even the moon was staring down at him, yelling at him to get a move on. But for some reason a deep dread filled his body and he couldn’t move.

There was an emptiness in his head he’d felt for a few days now, the normal sense of comforting from knowing that Accalia could hear when he was in distress and come to his aid was reassuring in a way he hadn’t felt before- but there was none of that now.

He ran his hands over his face again, he had to apologise to her. He looked to the large wooden doors of the manor; somehow they seemed taller now- more opposing. Yes, he would apologise to her, but first he had to survive his family.
