Jake watched with trepidation as Gale stood from where he was sitting and walked over to his sister. He said nothing as he stared at her, and she stared back at him. Moments past, and he knew that through whatever link they shared as siblings they understood each other’s silence, so he said nothing.

“Whenever I would get sick-“Gale began.

“Yes.” Mimi finished.

“And whenever the apothecary would be seen leaving our house-“

“He came to ask for help.”

“You lied to me.” Gale accused.

“No, I didn’t tell you.”

“You kept me in the dark!”

“I kept you hidden!” Mimi threw his harsh hits back at him harder than he did, “The dark was the only place safe left.”
