Chapter 113: Do You Know What You're Doing?

River

Either his wife was the gullible person on the planet, or she was the sneakiest. Since River knew for a fact it wasn’t the former, it had to be the latter. Exactly what Ellie’s angle was, he wasn’t sure, but whenever he tried to talk to her about Sylvia, she’d always say something like, “I’ve got it under control,” or “I know what’s going on.”

For two weeks, the other “Luna” hung out in their villages, following Ellie around, sometimes taking notes in a notebook, other times, asking if she could try something herself for practice. Ellie was obliging, of course, doing everything she could to help the other woman, as if she was actually a Luna in training. After those two weeks, River was even more convinced than ever that she wasn’t a true Luna.

One night after Sylvia had gone home for the evening, River sat down on the couch next to Ellie, waiting for her to put the magazine she was leafing through down and noticed that he was looking at her.
