Chapter 13: Evelyn, Part 1
It’d been cold that morning without the sun at its highest, but now that it was gaining ground the snow that had fallen the night before was already melting away. Returning home from my session with Dr. Laura left me thoughtful. With my immaculate, just-exchanged book safely folded in its new plastic bag, I made my way inside and back up to my room to carefully place it on the shelf calling its name. The knot in my stomach released its grip slightly, and I felt the gnawing worry over the old damaged book melt away. I went over and opened my window to take in the parting sights of winter as I breathed the fresh air once more, deeply this time. Suddenly, I heard a door slam, and from downstairs I could hear loud, hurried stomps approaching before William burst into my room, hanging off the door with a large boyish smile.
“Let's go out!” he said, barely containing his excitement.
