Chapter 29: Delling, Part 2
It took them three days to find all of the scattered livestock, and though it was pleasant weather in and around Jericho, without the cover of the city buildings, the desert sun left Delling steaming and breathless for water. For the sake of the livestock as well as themselves, the slaves stopped often at far off springs and rested in the shade of trees where and when they could. Delling had finally been given his freedom from the tall stone walls, but now all he wanted to do was go back to get his mother's necklace. Even though he knew it wasn't there, he kept clutching at his clothing where the pendant usually entangled within.
