Chapter 33: Ailis, Part 4

She stood and rushed her way back to the spot where she had seen them, standing in the darkness and looking around. As best she could see in the night, she was able to deduce that the two had indeed been there. She stood and sighed, relieved that they were not simply figments of her imagination or haunting spirits. Ailis moved to walk back to her cozy fire when she heard a noise that froze her. Had he returned? She flushed at the thought and snapped her head to see the silhouette of a tall man.

"Ailis?" the familiar voice asked. She felt like she had just been dunked in that cold stream again. It was Brody.

"Aye, it's me. Is something wrong?"

Brody came close, and though the moonlight and all the stars were hidden by clouds, the darkness almost impenetrable, she could somehow see through it and feel him towering over her. "No, my lady. I was coming to see ye at the fire when ye ran off. I hope ye weren't running away from me?"
