Chapter 40: Evelyn, Part 6
Delling chuckled. "Come and see!" He rushed forward and snatched me behind him. With my hand in his, he led me onto the cold floor and through the crowd of strange and awesome beings. Many were dancing, while others played otherworldly games. It was like a festival and a masquerade ball wrapped in a fairy tale. Some of the watchful eyes of the unusual crowd unnerved me, and as I was also trying to watch my step, I kept my gaze mostly on the floor as I trailed after Delling. By now I could see that the reflecting floor was merely spotted with mirrors, its milky-white quality making it so mainly light beamed back up, while large translucent areas revealed the greenery of the forest floor. My feet were starting to get used to its cold temperature, and the hard surface felt pleasurably smooth.
"Does it feel real yet?" he asked jovially, checking over his shoulder at me.
