Chapter 44: Evelyn, Part 1
Sometimes, I stared at my bedroom ceiling and passed the time by making shapes out of the shadows and old markings from past storm leaks, years back before we had the roof fixed from decay. William and I kept putting off replacing and repainting it; procrastination at its finest. I could see a clown, a chef, maybe even a dolphin or whale. It was a childhood pastime, and I could never decide on a shape because before I knew it, I would be sound asleep. After doing so one night, I felt light and strange in my sleep, like I was being lifted out of my body. Right before that moment I reached deep sleep, I felt a change. Through the darkness, I started to dream, and here I saw the same place I always saw in my visions, through the eyes of Ailis.
