Chapter 34

"You became hook on me really fast Eli. I'm impressed with myself. I just keep getting better every day," Helen patted herself on the back for a new achievement. She unlocked a new level of seduction today.

"I know you're hooked on me too, so what does that say about me?" Eli replied enjoying her endless amount of confidence. She had enough to fuel a few insecure people for a whole day.

"No no. I charmed you effortlessly, you have a charm which feels like you've practiced and perfected it."

"Hate to break it to you but that charm was a natural gift. Nothing you can learn," Eli corrected her. Seduction, charm, flirting, it all came naturally to him. She just wanted to save face from admitting she took interest in him.

"Why can't you admit you like me?"

"I never necessarily denied it. I just haven't been giving into my thoughts about you," Helen honestly answered. She had no reason to deny the attraction between the two of them but that was all she believed it to be, an attraction.

Maybe liking him quite a bit too but what amount of feelings could there be when they barely knew each other? They just freaking met. She only tried to kiss him to see what it would feel like then hopefully get it off her mind.

"Some things you just have to give into," Eli pushed her to take the next step. "It's not like I'm asking you to marry me. I'll never ask for your hand in marriage or children. We could just date and possibly be friends if it doesn't work out."

Helen raised her right brow at his last statement. "I don't befriend my exes, sir. Once we're done, I'm out. We broke up for a reason."

"I can't predict the future but we can make a deal to call it quits when the relationship starts going downhill. We don't have to wait till we feel like killing each other to end it. When it doesn't feel fun, we try being friends."

"You're really persistent," She said acknowledging how much of an 'I see something I want, I go get it' kind of man that he was. She didn't mind it considering she liked how his confidence matched her own.

Her strong personality didn't intimidate or make him feel less of a man where he would lash out at her for feeling inferior. He matched what she gave out and it made her like him a bit more.

"I see a woman I'm interested in, why let her slip through my fingers for another man who won't measure up to me to get her? You want it, you go get it. If I back off now you'll end up with some sucker," Eli explained his point of view.  There was no way he would give up so easily even after the third date.

But Helen had to stop him there. "Actually, I had no plans in dating right now or anywhere in the near future. If it weren't for the three date deal, I probably wouldn't be on a date anytime soon," She admitted. Helen was taking a break from being caught up with a man.

Helen continued to explain her reasoning. "I gave up on dating a while before I met you and it was only after seeing more of you that I was finally having fun again. There wouldn't be anyone after you and quite frankly there wasn't supposed to be you in front of me right now. Consider yourself lucky," Helen congratulated him but she didn't clap or poked him to give him a little scare again.

'Sounds a lot like fate and I have enough experience to know you can't outrun fate," Eli responded finally giving into the idea of this being fate.  He knew such a thing as fate existed. The red string of fate.

He saw Helen in a different lifetime and here again. The question was what connected them for fate to string them together? They were completely opposite when it came to what they biologically were. He wondered what would have happened if he approached Helen back then. How would that have played out?

Those days were the prime of his kind not wanting to mix with what was their food source. It wouldn't have been easy to bring her into his circle back then. Maybe that was the reason it didn't work the first time and Helen's past life died before he could see her again.

He almost laughed out loud at the thought of fate practically pushing him to shake up his circle. It was indeed comical.

"I'm a good runner, it'll have a hard time catching up to me," Helen replied turning her focus back to the lights. She did not believe fate was pushing her to be with Eli. It was nonsense but if it were true, at least fate had a good taste in Helen's kind of men.

She saw the apartment building she lived in come into view and knew she had to answer Eli's question before she would leave. He was adhering to her wishes of not wanting to be proposed to and never ever looking forward to having children, so he was right. There wasn't really a reason to prolong the attraction that was there.

However, she would not give in to it tonight. He had one last date after all.

When the car finally stopped right in front of the building she said, "I won't give you a proper answer till the end of the third date. You better plan something nice. I took a load off your shoulders today with you being my date."

"Of course you took a load off my shoulders. I spent a lot of money at the restaurant today. It was more of a win-win for you," He reminded her of the amount he spent today. He even paid for her friend's meal and was surprised to know one of them had three main dishes.

Helen snickered remembering his surprise learning how much Julie ate. "Thank you for the support. Don't your shoulders feel better after getting that money off it?"

"Hmm.."

"See you at our next date," She said taking off her seatbelt then leaned over to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Goodbye," She said opening the car door and stepped out.

"I won't leave till you message and say you got in safe," He stated before she could close the door.

'What a gentleman,' She thought before replying, "Sure thing."

Eli watched her figure as long as he could before it disappeared into the building. All he had to do now was wait for her to text him.  He decided to take a look around the building to see how safe it was. She lived in a pretty decent neighborhood. She probably chose it considering how close it was to the restaurant.

It had security cameras and guards but it all depended on how efficient the guards were. Were they the type to take their jobs seriously or were they just here to sit around and collect money?

In the corner of his eye, he noticed a young woman arguing with a woman much older while a car was running not too far away from the duo. It was a good thing he already tuned everything out or he would have to hear their argument.

The older woman stomped her foot down seemingly giving up on the argument and walked away. Thanks to his good sight, he saw the young woman had a big smile on her face as she ran to the car which had tinted windows.

Perhaps she was running away with her lover and the older woman didn't approve.

He didn't watch any longer once the woman got into the car and it drove away.

Simultaneously, he received a text message which came from Helen.

I got in safely. Please be careful on your drive back home.

That was enough for him to drive off knowing she made it inside. Eli started the car and drove off from the building passing the same older woman who appeared to be crying as she walked back to wherever she came from.
