Chapter 47

Noah opened the car door for Eli who was walking back and forth thinking about something. Most likely, it was about what his father was planning with suddenly snooping around in his life. As far as Noah was concerned, Charles was always too busy satisfying himself outside his marriage to care about what Eli was doing. So why now? Why meddle in Eli's life or even care to investigate who Eli chose to spend his time with?

Eli paused movement seemingly making his decision then walked over to the car and got inside.

"Where are you going now?" Noah questioned before he could close the door.

"To my parent's home."

"I see," Noah answered slowly closing the door. He couldn't remember the last time Eli went to visit his parents in their home. He always visited his mother at restaurants or any other private places but never at the King mansion.

When Eli visited his parents there would always be tension between Eli and his father. Not to mention the awkward dinner when Eli attempted to kill his father and the next day they all sat at the table as if nothing occurred the previous night. Hopefully, today would be one of the more rare peaceful days.

"Wake me up when we arrive," Eli instructed Noah. He leaned back in the seat as he always did and closed his eyes awaiting seeing his father again.

"Yes sir."

An hour and a half later, the duo was back in the city and was entering the gates of the King family home. Right on queue, Eli opened his eyes without Noah telling him they arrived. He just felt a familiar feeling being near this house. A feeling of negative energy from the moment you enter the gates.

It was interesting how they managed to bring the same depressing feeling from the old castle to this mansion.

The mansion wasn't as big as the old castle from when they were once true royalty but it was big enough to see an important person resided there. Charles made some renovations to give the mansion a similar look to that of a castle. Even though his family had stepped away from being royals, they were still respected and seen as royals, so his father maintained that image.

"Stay outside," Eli ordered Noah who was more than thankful he didn't need to go inside the house. Eli did not want Noah stuck in the crossfire of what happens today.

Eli exited the car and went straight up the grand stairs leading to the doors of the house.

A few passing vampires who had some business to deal with Charles greeted Eli upon his arrival, "Eli King. A pleasure to see you here-"

However, Eli ignored them not having time for fake small talk and ass-kissing. He was not in the mood to have his ass kissed spotlessly.

Even with what they considered rude on Eli's part for not responding with a simple nod, they peacefully let it be. Even the slightest mutter would be heard by Eli's ears and the man was too unpredictable. They weren't looking to get on his bad side.

Eli continued to ignore everyone else who was coming and going from the home and instead searched for his father. He picked up on his father's voice and followed it to his father's office where the man was already expecting him.

Charles King wasn't just any vampire who wouldn't pick up on who entered his home. He was an older identical version of Eli without any signs of his old age. He too appeared young just like his wife Elaine.

Charles sat with his legs perched on a table, drinking his usual daily dose of blood from a glass. He smirked watching his son enter his office with a calm expression. Certainly, Eli must've found his little spy and was told he was the one who hired Vincent.

Was spying on a woman all it took to get his son back inside this house? Interesting.

"A lovely visit from my son," Charles smiled appearing as though he was glad to see Eli.

"Cut the bullshit father. What do you want?" Eli questioned helping himself to a seat in his father's office. His father knew he didn't come here for a father-son bonding session.

After thousands of years, haven't any of them learned Eli didn't care for the fake greeting shenanigans? He wished he took more swings at Vincent's head to clear his annoyance but the man would be long gone by now. Maybe catching a few more of his father's servants would solve the issue.

"Straight to the point as always. Why can't I ever enjoy a good conversation with my son? When your mother gave birth and I learned I had a son, I figured I would have so many moments to teach my son all that I know and bond. A shame we were never like that for too long," Charles said taking a trip down memory lane remembering his life with Eli.

Eli reached for one of the nearest objects close by, which happened to be a book and threw it at his father who wasn't answering his question.

Fortunately, Charles caught the book with his free hand and laughed. "You have to give me a heads up when you do that son. One might think you actually want to hurt your father. But I think you read my mind. I needed this book," He said placing the book in his lap and opened it to read its contents.

Eli scoffed at his father's usual delusion to convince himself they have a good relationship. Why hold onto the idea anything good was left when the relationship had been spoiled for thousands of years?

"What the fuck do you want father? Why are you spying on my house? In fact, why are you making it obvious now? You got me to show up, be straight and tell me what you want from me."

Charles slammed the book shut causing dust particles to escape because of how old the book was and said to Eli, "I use to admire your need to get to the point quickly but now it irritates my soul."

"In case you forgot father, we don't have a soul and if they were handing them out to us, you would be last on the list."
