Chapter 50

"What about her?"

"Everything. What family is she from? What is she like? What does she do for a living?" Questioned Elaine, giving him a small list of what she wanted to know about the girl her son was involved with."Forgive me for wanting to know so much but it's been a while since I heard of you with a woman. You've been working too hard Eli."

"She's human," Eli said, ignoring all the other questions and got straight to the hard topic.

Elaine froze hearing the words leave his mouth. Her expression changed from excitement to confusion all in a matter of seconds. "I'm sorry Eli. Did you just say she's human?"

Eli nodded his head and even repeated his words. "She's human."

Elaine wanted to scold him for telling a joke but seeing him remain stern about the girl being human, she knew it wasn't a joke. She was flabbergasted by her son being in a relationship with a human.

She took a deep breath and through gritted teeth, she said, "Son. You know you can't mix with a human. It's not a serious relationship, right? Please tell me it isn't."

"I've overheard her friend saying on the phone that moving our clothes into each other's closets is making the relationship get more serious so I guess so," Eli responded, watching his mother turn even paler. This was why he chose to rip the bandaid off hard about Helen being human. His mother can freak out and then at some point, they could have a proper conversation.

Elaine placed her hand on her chest feeling faint from this unexpected news. How could her son, Eli King, be in a relationship with a human? After all she did to set him up on dates with a vampiress, he went out and chose to be with a human. This was ridiculous.

"Eli, vampires, and humans don't mix contrary to what your father and some other people might believe. It's a prey and predator relationship. And you know we don't want to mix our blood with humans. We must keep our future lineage pure," Elaine said solemnly, placing her hands on Eli's shoulders.

She looked him dead in the eye and continued to say, "What would happen if you two become serious? I want you to be happy with whoever you love but there's also the fact that she'll eventually die. We clearly don't commit to the idea of having one partner forever but I want that for you and being with a human won't give you this."

Eli removed his mother's hands from his shoulder but didn't let go of them. "Well it's good Helen isn't a fan of long-term commitment. If I ever mention marriage to her, she would probably disappear into the night."

Elaine's nostrils flared at the revelation that the woman, who she now knew was named Helen, did not want to get married. "Why not? What's wrong with her?"

"Most likely saw a bad example of marriage. Thankfully, you and my father haven't fully scared me on the idea of being married but I will respect Helen's wishes not to," Eli said, continuing to watch his mother go through a train wreck of emotions. "She doesn't want children either," He added in for a little razzle-dazzle to tip his mother over the edge. He just couldn't resist it.

Elaine gripped Eli's hands taken aback by what the girl seemed to be against. The more he spoke about this Helen, the more the woman scared her. There was no way she would allow her son to remain with this Helen woman.

"It doesn't matter what she wants or doesn't want, it won't matter at the end of the day. End whatever this is right now."

Eli gently removed his hands from his mother's grip. "I'll have to decline that request, mother. I'm quite attached to Helen. I've never met anyone almost as devious as I am."

"Eli-"

He interjected his mother's words before she could continue by saying, "If you don't want me speaking or interfering with the relationship you have with father, don't try to do the same to me. I'll bring Helen by to introduce you to her in a matter of time."

"Excuse my words mother but you're stuck in a relationship with no love, don't force the same unto me. I will no longer be your distraction for ignoring my father's deeds. I hope one day you only think of only your happiness mother. I love you," He said, kissing her cheek. "I promise to visit again."

He knew his words weren't enough to convince her right now but he had faith in his mother to at least give Helen a try. Even if the effort to give Helen a try might start with a cold shoulder and insult, he still wanted the two to meet and work it out.

Elaine closed her eyes knowing she should want Eli to be happy with whatever decision he made for his future but with this one, she just could not accept a human. "I can't allow you to be a woman."

"Funny, I never asked for your permission to allow me to date Helen. We'll both see you soon mother."

Elaine felt a spark of guilt deep in her heart for not accepting the woman Eli had picked. He didn't need to utter the word love for his mother to know it is what he felt about the human. Elaine truly wanted him to be happy and have his own family, escaping this hell hole of a house but this wouldn't pass.

No matter what Eli had planned, that girl won't survive for too long. And the short period Helen would stand by Eli would only tarnish his reputation as a vampire. No vampire took another creature to be their partner. It was not allowed.

But there was no need for Elaine to worry. Helen would be gone faster than how she came into Eli's life.
