downfall

WHEN SHE DOESN'T HEAR A WORD FROM KAI, she peers up through teary eyes to find him gone. A sigh of relief escapes her lips, feeling a heavy weight being lifted off her chest. Her eyes fall down to the dried and dead grasses of the garden field— courtesy of Connor's blood.

"Lara. Why did you say that?"

She bares her teeth at him, "If I didn't, he was going to kill you. He already knows you have cut human sacrifices so now he knows how weak you have gotten." She speaks. "I cannot lose another sibling to him."

"No." He tries to sit up but pain seeps in, so he stays in his position which is in Lara's arms. "I want Aubrey to trust us. If she finds out we are the ones who exposed her to Kai, it is over and you know how she is."

"It doesn't matter. It is better you're not dead, now we can find a way of stopping Kai from taking off the bracelet."
