Chapter 4

Sarah vowed to be a powerful woman of faith and never handle a gun or any other weapon the day she began to believe in God. She planned to dedicate her entire life to work and just work and daily prayers.

But the people surrounding her would not let her be. She was having second thoughts about her decision.

This is what she was thinking when she saw Harry standing in her office, staring out the open window at something far away, clutching a dark blue file under his arm as if someone was about to take it from him.

He had green piercing eyes, a hooked nose, and lips lined in a straight line probably thinking about something sinister for her. But when she had stared coldly at him for a very long time, he turned his head in her direction and stared directly into her eyes. He was wearing spectacles. She didnt notice that before.

He didn't use glasses before but why now? Was he hiding his identity or something? She did not appear shocked. She knew his intentions beforehand.

"What are you doing here?" she sardonically asked.

"What do you think?" he asked, stepping back to reveal Eason standing behind him.

'So Harry is the assistant he was talking about. Why is he here? what does he want from me?' she thought. She remained where she was, that is in the doorway.

"Hello, Sarah! So, here's your assistant." Eason spoke rapidly, realizing the tension in the air. "From now on, he will work with you." After, which he said. There was a deafening silence. They were both staring at each other's eyes. Sarah was trying to threaten Harry. That the consequences of this intrusion would be unbearable for him.

As Eason looked from Sarah to Harry and back to Sarah, perplexed by their strange conduct, he wondered if they knew each other before?

Sarah was the first to break their stare.

'It is useless to get him believe me!'

"Oh, I forgot to introduce him to you. Meet Harry Levers. And Harry, she is Sarah Hal, your new Boss." When looking at Sarah, he highlighted the word 'Boss.'

She sighed and rolled her eyes. She was still standing by the door.

"Okay. I have introduced you two. Now start working!" Eason stated baldly and moved towards Sarah. of course he had to escape before Sarah could argue, he knew Sarah wouldn't spare him he stayed one more minute.

She moved aside giving him an evil look. He tapped on her shoulder and moved out. Harry stood there triumphant. Saying nothing but looking at them.

He had something fishy going on but what that actually was? Sarah wondered.

She did enter the office then, moved past Harry, and sat down behind her desk without a word. She wanted to ignore him instead because if she argued he would reveal her previous sins before everyone and if that happened, the reputation she had earned will be shattered. He was a shitty person. He will use that as an excuse to make her believe that they wouldn't spare her even if she had moved on in her life. Ignorance is bliss they say so maybe he will leave soon?

Harry smiled. He knew she was like that. She will never talk to him when she is angry with him. Behaving like he didn't exist. It was fine with him. He can manage that. As long as she loses her patience. She was easily irritated. Sarah has gone weeks without speaking to him on many occasions in the past. They were best friends back then but now they were the worst enemies of each other.

"Why are you standing there?" She asked him coldly, her eyes on the screen before her. She was already pissed off and the slow internet was making her angrier. Her lips formed a line.

'How about manual work? Maybe that will help!' she thought. She knew it would not work but somehow she had to make herself occupied with work so that she would feel calm.

When Harry saw her like that, he smiled. He was acutely aware of what she was feeling. Wasn't it just amusing? Yes it was cute.

She started scrabbling around her desk, her hands wandering about, her gaze never leaving the screen. She flinched once when her wounded hand collided with the side of the desk as she was about to withdraw a stack of papers from it.

"Damn!" She muttered under her breath. How could she be so careless? And in front of her junior let alone her foe? Danger! danger!

Dark red blood started pouring out of the bandage.

Harry when saw it he moved like lightning and stood by her side and tried to take her hand in his but Sarah jerked it away as quickly as possible.

"Sarah? Don't be clumsy! It needs a new dressing. Please let me help you!" He said. Sarah didn't budge. She started typing. Her hand as bleeding very badly and it hurt too but she didn't care. No not in front of him never!

"Why are you standing here?" She said with a tone that was saying she didn't care. But deep down she knew he was right. She bit her lower lip.

"Waiting for your approval probably!" He answered in a brackish tone. If she was stubborn then he too was.

He lifted her bleeding hand and began removing the blood-splattered guaze. Sarah attempted to release her hand from his grasp, but he was clutching it too firmly, so she had to give up.

"F***keep!" She said.

Harry smiled instead.

Sarah laughed a bitter laugh. 'What is he even thinking? Am I a joke to him or what?'

"Oh yes! I almost forgot. You are my assistant now and I will work with you from now on. So you must care for me? And make sure I didn't get hurt right?" The sarcasm was apparent in her every word. It was an effort to make him angry but he was enjoying it.

"Well yes if you please may I explain to you what are we going to do with this? Is there any first aid kit here?" He said this in the tone used by her, as he looks here and there.

'If she thinks that she can get away with me so easily then I can make it hard for her too.' he thought. She didn't respond and looked at her hand for the first time.

"Nothing. leave it the way it is!" said Sarah, "You know that I can handle this alone like I always do!?" she sighed. He looked at her face for the first time. He knew her too well. 'Why am I like this? Why does this thought keep on replaying?!!" He thought.

Her right hand's palm was swollen with blood. It had crimson blood dripping from it. She whimpered once more. Gripping her injured hand with the other one.

Harry looks through drawers first. He left her in the cabin alone to find a first aid kit or something like that to help her. She wasn't alone though because her thoughts were with her.

She was not paying attention to him because her mind was elsewhere now. She was thinking about Jason again. Where will he be now? What if he is laying in a cold dark grave in an old graveyard? What if he is dead? Will she see him again? She wondered.

She felt tears pricking in her eyes but she held them back. She has to find a way out of this. She has to look for him no matter what. She would do anything to see him once again.

'God please let me see him for one last time! Please protect him!' she prayed and her head bowed. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

Harry returned with a first aid kit that he had borrowed from one of their colleagues. Yes, they were now his colleagues too.

This time, he took her hand softly. She didn't fight back. Her mind was already occupied with the thoughts of Jason. He started wiping the debris softly with a cotton ball. He then gently bandaged it with fresh gauze. He did not leave her side. Even though his 'job' was done now.

"Please take a seat!" She yelled angrily. Unfortunately, instead of making her more calm and quite all of this was adding fuel to the fire.

'I would have killed you right now, but I vowed to God, I wouldn't do such a thing,' she thought, looking coldly into his eyes.

"I know you can but I also know the fact that I am your assistant now (once again) so I have to work with you." He smirked again. He must have read her thoughts like he always did. That killer smirk of his was what she hated the most about him.

He was making her angrier even though he knew very well that she was a short-tempered person. He was enjoying the fact that he now had control over her. But Sarah was not going to let him do that.

His piercing blue eyes were now focused on her. His forehead was furrowed. He was hoping for an answer. On the other hand, Sarah stayed silent and still, her eyes tracing something on her computer screen. The internet was working fine now that she was calm. 'what the f***?' she thought. She'd long forgotten about him.

He took a seat in one of the seats in front of the desk where she was sitting. The only thing that made her swear again was the screech of the chair. 'Did he do it on purpose?'

Sarah's mouth curved into a grin. It was a forced one. To hide her inner devil that was now beginning to show up before the one sitting before her.

"Now what do we have to do? Like what sort of project is it?" She appeared professional.

'Let's handle it this way shall we?'

"This file has everything we need. Here take it!" He said as he handed her the folder.

Sarah opened the file, read some lines while scrambling through the pages. On her table, Harry was fiddling with a pen holder. Bored, Of course.

'He will regret it all! I am sure he will!' Sarah thought. Smiling for the first time.

She read some more before sitting back in her seat with her arms folded before her chest, considering the whole scenario for a while.

“What can YOU contribute to this project?” she asked all of a sudden, her gaze fixed on the penholder in Harry's hands. Harry looked at her, slightly taken aback.

“I'll give you ideas, I guess, or maybe write some of the manuscripts?” he sardonically suggested. He was trying to irritate her so she might ask him why he was doing this to her.

“Ok, let's do that then!” Sarah liked his helpless debate. He may know her older version but he has no idea how creepy her new version is.

And that's how they ended up working together. Sarrah didn't like it, but she had to put up with him in order to get away from problems at work. Harry on the other hand seems pissed as every now and then he made mistakes while making notes on his ipad.

Was he regretting it? Was it a bad idea to get close to her in this way?
