Leon and Alexis carefully took a look around. Other than the giant floating crystal there wasn't much else aside from an ominous looking throne and a large sigil of some kind on the ground.
They both started wandering around the place after checking for any dangerous creatures. This place looks like someone once lived here. It's completely different from the other floors of the tower. Maybe they finally reached the end.
While Alexis was observing the crystal Leon decided to take a look at the throne. Its similar to what a king would use. It was golden and sat on an elevated platform. The sigil on the ground is like nothing he's ever seen before. He couldn't even begin to guess what it's purpose was.
He walked up the few stairs and sat on the throne, cause why not right?
Nobodies been here for ages. He can tell because of the thick layer of dust settled on every surface. As he sat down though, something he never expected happened.
A blue window instantly popped up in his view as soon as his cheeks landed upon the throne.
~Congratulations! ~
~You have claimed the throne inside the tower and therefore have become the owner of said tower! ~
~Rewards and title have been distributed! ~
~System has been successfully upgraded! ~
~Good luck with the upcoming war, tower master! ~
~REBOOTING.... ~
~COMPLETE. ~
Leon became swarmed by all the messages in his vision. It was a lot to take in and he didn't know where to start.
So he has become the master of this tower? How does that even work? He thought to himself.
~By claiming the throne you have become the sole owner of this tower and now you have access to all its resources. ~
Huh? The system has never been capable of answering him like that. So that's what the upgrade did he guessed.
"What kind of resources?" he asked the system.
~Firstly, you gain access to all the mana produced by the tower that you can use any way you like. For now that is all you can access, but in the future you can unlock more hidden features of the tower. ~
~This goes without saying but you may also use the tower as your base of operations and customize it for a price. The price being cores, once you have a sufficient amount you may add defenses, utilities, and also upgrade existing features. ~
"Man, that's a lot to take in at once. So if I get a bunch of cores from killing zombies I can upgrade the tower. Interesting..."
"For now how do I access the mana the tower produces?" he asks the system.
If he is able to get a large amount of mana from the tower then he can use his abilities as much as he wants. He could even use it to help his egg hatch by letting it consume the towers mana.
~There is a room to your left, once you enter you should feel the mana in the room to be much more dense than usual. ~
"I see..." he mumbles while going to the room the system mentioned. When he steps in front of the door he realizes it has no handle.
~Place your hand on the door and it shall recognize you as the master of the tower and let you inside. ~ The system explains before he even has to asks.
He does as instructed and places his palm directly on the door. At first nothing happens but then after a few seconds the door cracks open with a hiss like it had to release the built up pressure inside.
White fog slowly seeps out of the doorway as he finally gets a good look inside. It look just like an empty room. He takes a few steps inside and quickly feels the pressure on his body. His ears pop like he just flew up in elevation.
If he didn't have his body strengthened by absorbing cores he might have just crumbled to the floor.
After a moment of standing still and adjusting he moves deeper inside. The white fog completely covers the floor and swirls around his legs when he moves around.
It's cold but also warm at the same time. It's a very strange feeling but not a bad one.
Time to test his theory. He reaches into his pack and pulls out the furry egg and places it on the ground. The fog drifts away from that spot almost as if it's alive. Leon sits down in a meditative position facing his egg. It might take a while so he decided to see if he can gain any sort of boost from this room.
Meanwhile Alexis has been exploring the tower on her own. Unfortunately, she's not the tower master so she has limited access but that didn't put a dent in her adventurous spirit. Other than the room that Leon is in and the big floating crystal, there are a few other rooms behind locked doors.
There's no way for her to find out what's in them as of right now so she continues skipping around the place with little ava sitting on her shoulder.
Pretty soon she finds a room with its door open wide. Finally, she gets to let out her inner explorer!
At first glance she sees these strange metal basins filled with dirt. She completely oblivious to what they are or why they would have a room like this. Shes only a kid and hasn't seen a lot of things.
There actually hydroponics basins for growing plants. The thing that's stands out though are the strange plants growing here. They look nothing like the plants we know on earth.
Some of the plants are even alive and moving around.
"They look like creatures from a fairytale!" She thinks.
The next few hours go by like this, with Leon meditating with his egg in the mana room and Alexis exploring every inch of this floor of the tower.
One moment Leon is focusing on trying to clear his mind when all of a sudden....
Crack!
His eyes instantly pop open as he examines the egg, and sure enough there's a small crack spiraling around the shell.
Crack! Crack!
A couple more cracks later and the creature finally emerges from its egg. At first he has no clue what he's looking at. It's quite small, it looks like something between a bat and a dog.
The creature takes its first steps as it struggles out of its shell. It looks around carefully until it's gaze falls on Leon. It slowly stumbles closer to him. Leon sticks his hand out thinking he could pet it. It looks like that's what it wants but he immediately regrets his choice.
The small creature bites into his wrist before Leon can even react. It acted like it could hardly walk but then pounced out of nowhere.
It sank its teeth into his wrist. It didn't actually hurt though much to his surprise. He decided to let it continue. It's not like it would be able to put up much of a fight right now anyways, so he has nothing to worry about.
Now that the initial shock is gone he is able to see the little creature up close. It really does look like something straight out of a fantasy story. It even has webbing between its arms and legs like a glider.
After a minute or so Leon gets a strange draining feeling. He then realized that it's not just biting him, it's sucking his blood.
"What kind of messed up vampire dog are you?" he mumbles to himself. With its mouth still clamped tightly on his wrist, he started stroking his fingers through its fur.
It's fur is very odd, he can see the fur but at the same time it feels like silk. Kind of like what he imagines a seal to feel like. It's mind boggling that's for sure.
It thankfully begins to release its grip on him as it falls limp on the ground with a full stomach.
"That was an odd experience to say the least. He then proceeds to scoop it up in his arms and holds it like you would a human baby.
When he tries to stand up though his legs give out and he falls right back down into the sitting position.
"It must have taken more than I thought."
At least this answers one of the many questions he has been searching for. The fact that it can drink blood instead of having to only absorb mana is a good thing. If he's not able to give mana he can always have the option of giving blood.
Another thing he's worried about is that unlike spike and Edgar, the little vamp can't be stored away. He'll have to make sure he doesn't draw unwanted attention.
Those worries are for the future though.
"Are you sure it was okay to let it do that to you?" Alexis asks. She was observing everything that just happened while feeding ava with her near limitless mana.
"Yea it should be fine, i could have pulled it off anytime I wanted too." Leon says while giving Alexis a confident smile.
"How's ava doing? Any progress?"
"Yep, she's much stronger now. Since I can give her a constant supply of mana she has grown really fast." she explains.
"That's good to hear. Between spike and Edgar and now these two we almost have an army. Once they get strong enough we might not even have to fight much." Leon ponders.
"I know right, but I don't want ava to get hurt so I want to get stronger too."
