"Expelled is bit much now isn't it?" I asked.
"Accidents, disaster, selfish villains. They are a bit much too aren't they? And dealing with them is the job of heroes. If you wanted a bit less, you should have gone to a lesser school. This is the UA hero course. It is meant to throw hardship after hardship at you to refine you into fine heroes. The next three years will be filled with these. That is our motto, Go beyond, Plus Ultra!" He said, his smirk morphing into a smug irresistably punchable face, "Overcome it with all you've got."
And so began the tests.
First came the 50 meter dash. I made it with a comfortable 6.89 seconds.
Deku on the other hand, now with 5% cowling, that he'd practiced for over 3 weeks now and a bit of advice from me, made it even faster at 4.55 seconds unlike the slow pace of his in the canon timeline. He got away with only medium muscle pains.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
"Keep it at full power." I said to Deku as he tried using his quirk at 100 percent. Then as he reached the peak, I stopped his arm with Immobilization Eye, at the last moment prevent the punch from going through. Repeating this until he got a feel for the control of his power, without destroying his hands in the process, he got up to the 5 percent full cowl at an astonishing speed.
Another bit of canon changed at my behest.
Second came the grip strength test which I passed with a good 71 kgs.
Third came the test where I would shine the most. The standing long jump. I projected an eye at the topmost windowsill by the roof.
Then I switched between freezing one leg after the other in midair, basically airwalking over the sand pit, pulling my self up by my literal bootstraps, all the while rubbing my smile into Aizawa's face.
"I can go all day." I said, much to his annoyance.
Regardless to say, I topped the score on the long jump at infinity.
"So that's your quirk!" Kaminari said, as I walked back.
"Yup." I answered.
"What exactly can it do?" Sero asked.
"That's a secret. Can't be giving out my weaknesses can I now." I said.
From the other end of the group, came Bakugo's voice.
"He can stop everything he sees. That's his quirk." He revealed.
"Oh!" They said.
"Not cool, Bakagou!" I whined.
"What are you gonna do about it?" Bakugo taunted.
He knew that I also had a way to give him remote wedgies, so he was probably hoping I'd reveal it and confirm his years long suspicions.
Unfortunately for him, I wasn't a short tempered explody boy.
He was shit out of luck.
"Eh, nothing much." I said, making a gesture of giving a wedgie.
He flipped immediately.
"You bastard! I knew I was right!" He ran over at me, exploding away, only to be stopped in place.
Instantly he clapped, exploding smoke between me and him.
He probably hoped that now that I couldn't see him, my quirk wouldn't work. He was wrong of course. But I had no intention of revealing that. So I released him, as he exploded the ground beneath him, creating a dust cloud.
Dipping low, he bumrushed me, only to be stopped by Aizawa-sensei.
His quirk erased, he was put back in place.
"No! You and that quirkless bastard. This is your conspiracy isn't it?" He screamed.
Man, has he gone mad? Now I almost feel bad for wedgie-ing him everyday for the past two years.
"What conspiracy? And quirkless? Midoriya-san isn't quirkless see?" Kirishima said, pointing at Izuku making a giant leap across the sand pit, before running over.
"Now that I think about it, you were mumbling something about Midoriya-kun being quirkless earlier as well. What was that about?" Iida asked.
"Well? Bakugo? Care to tell us what all this is about?" Aizawa-sensei asked.
"That bastard Deku! He's supposed to be quirkless, no, he has to be quirkless!" Bakugo screamed in anger.
"Why do you think that? Can't you see that he's using his quirk?" Kaminari asked.
"No. Bakugo is right. Midoriya is supposed to be quirkless. That'swhat his admissions form says. And having seen his performance in the entrance exam, Ican attest to the fact. Midoriya was quirkless when he passed the entrance exam." Aizawa-sensei explained.
"But that's impossible! He was ranked third in the exam! Are you saying he passed the entrance exam without using his quirk? And came third at that?" Iida asked in shock.
"No. I'm saying he passed his exam without having a quirk. Midoriya gained his quirk after the exam." Aizawa-sensei clarified.
"What?!" The class exclaimed.
"That's right. Deku was quirkless when he gave the exam." I confirmed.
"But then, how did he pass the exam? And rank third at that?" Iida asked, flabbergasted.
"Do you think you need a quirk to pass the exam? To be a hero?" I asked.
"Of course!" Iida answered without hesitation.
"Wrong!" I said.
"To be a hero, you don't need a flashy quirk, what you need is the right attitude. Deku has fought off terrorists that could blow up entire buildings, he has captured C rank criminals, and helped defeat an A rank villain. All while being quirkless. That is more than most pro heroes achieve in their entire career. Hell, that's more than what half of you will achieve in the course of your hero careers. What you need to be a hero is the courage to do what's right, even at the cost of your own life. That is Deku's and a hero's greatest strength. Don't look down on quirkless people. Because if you do, you'll end up regretting it." I added.
"Do you know why he, a quirkless person got third place in the entrance exam when people with quirks like you didn't Iida? Because when he went into the exam, he acted like a hero. He defeated villains AND he rescued people. And not because he knew about rescue points beforehand. He did it because it was the right thing to do. Because it's what a hero should do. And when the zero pointer came? I'm betting a pretty penny that most of you ran. You didn't think of fighting it. You didn't think of saving those fellow examinees who were hurt by it. All you thought was, 'I won't get villain points for defeating it, so I'll just run away like a coward and leave those who are hurt to die.' That's not what a hero does. A hero runs into danger to help those who need it." I said.
"But it was an exam! If only it wasn't an exam I would've saved them too!" Iida protested.
The rest of the class mumbled in agreement.
Aizawa watched the proceedings with great interest.
"Is that also what you'll say when you're heroes? The villain was too strong so I ran away and let people die? Or there aren't any reporters here so I won't get credit for saving these people, so might as well let the villain kill them? Tell me Iida, is that what you'll do? If so, none of you deserve to be heroes!" I said, pointing at them accusingly.
Iida shut his mouth and bit his lip in shame. His nails dug into his fist, as he tried to think of an argument, failing in the face of his guilt.
"Hey Bakugo! Do you remember the sludge villain incident eleven months ago? Remember how Deku saved you from the villains while all the pro heroes stood by waiting for someone else to come. Do you remember what they said, Bakugo, while you were choking to death in front of their eyes? Tell them what they said."
I asked.
"Tch! They said that the villain was too strong. They wanted to leave it to someone else. They were cowards who didn't want to risk their lives to save me. But I'm different. I'm strong, no, the strongest. I'll never be weak like them! And for that matter, I didn't need saving. Not from a quirkless piece of shit like Deku!" Bakugo shouted.
I pointed at him, and continued. "That was when Deku saved him. A quirkless boy did what pro heroes with poweful quirks like Mount Lady and Death Arms didn't have the courage to do. The pro heroes were giving the exact same excuse as you, while they just stood there and watched the villain destroy the market street. The houses and livelihoods of hundreds of people. And they just stood by. With those same excuses. The villain is too strong. If only he wasn't so strong I would've done something. That's what all of you sound like. Fakes. Money hungry, clout chasing fakes who don't deserve to be heroes." I said, pulling them down a peg.
"That's a bit harsh, Haru-chan." Deku said.
"Not harsh enough in my opinion!" I said.
"Well spoken, Haru. That still doesn't explain how Midoriya got his quirk though does it?" Aizawa-sensei interjected.
