The first next sound that Thress heard after Seth's statement was scratches -- but this time the scratches sounded like heinous tears. He heard grunts and gnarling and was forced to look up at the top of the bunker. Eventually, Thress peeled his gaze off Seth despite knowing that he could be struck and killed at any time. When his sight landed on the top of what he thought was his refuge, Thress saw what his eyes had never beheld before.
Thick drools of saliva dropped into the bunker as the half-deads all snarled at him while he gaped. Thress wet himself in that instant. What were those? His shaky mind wondered. His bottomlip trembled violently and he had to bite down hard involuntarily to keep it in place.
