Making the First Call

Under the night sky, the capital of Lemorio was oddly silent. Looks like the areas in the lower district were more peaceful.

Sting was on the roof. Checking his scope since he heard some intel that Agents were scouting the corners. He needed to keep an eye.

He never expected President Melvin to be in the capital. Regardless, he was glad he found someone from his country.

Around them were several houses of various heights. His vision was limited. He checked the dark corners and alleyways via his scope. It was even more difficult since there was barely any light. The torches weren't strong enough.

"Hey Lord Sting." Teisha approached him from behind.

"Hmm?"

"Is that person really your ruler? He is so cool! He even gave me some coins s since I wanted to buy some corn. Too bad there is no stock for food." She sighed.

"Well, it's expected. The markets are closed due to the conflict."

Looking beside him, Minnie was even more shrouded in glum. "I hope he won't send me to the guillotine. I won't be surprised if you eliminate me here Lord Reaper."

"Don't mind it. He already forgave you." Sting peeked on his scope one more time. He noticed some people in the distance were fighting. One or two men fell after getting slashed.

Then the slashers were now heading to their location. After some time, he recognized that it was the church Agents with their white robes and hood.

"Enemies!" Sting gasped when he heard some noises below. When he looked under, he noticed the Agents were climbing the wall. There were four of them.

Sting quickly aimed and fired. One fell and landed on the ground. "Minnie! Notify them!"

"Yes, Lord Reaper!" Minnie nodded. She then sprinted back to the lower floors.

Two Agents climbed up and then jumped at the roof.

Sting couldn't take them both alone at close range. He was in trouble.

One Agent leaped towards him with a dagger drawn.

"Lord Sting!" Teisha jumped and revealed her claws on her fingers. She then slashed the Agent's chest, blood was smeared outward.

"Agh!" Yelled the Agent

"Tsk, damn beast man!" The other Agent went towards Teisha, but only to get slashed with her high agility. Even if the Agents were trained to be agile, beast-men were on a different level.

She was in her fighting stance. "Lord Sting, I'll handle them."

Sting was now focusing on defending the incoming Agents from the distance. He began pinpointing the enemies from below and began shooting them.

After Minnie informed them, the household was now preparing to move out.

Melvin quickly loaded his colt. Counting his bullet count, he only had about 5 bullets left. He needed to conserve well from now on.

As for Rederick, there wasn't much luck. He only had 2 rounds left for one of his UZI. The other was gone. He switched it on semi-automatic.

"Ugh, looks like we need to switch to another weapon," Melvin said. He then placed the colt back into his pocket.

Hervil appeared from the back door. He tossed some swords to them. "We need to leave."

Melvin smiled seeing the unsheathed blade on his arm. It was heavy indeed. However, he wasn't sure if he could wield them well. Regardless, it looked cool in his arm so he tried unsheathing it.

However, when he shifted his eyes from the sword he noticed everyone was gone.

"Hey sir, what are you doing?" Celine said annoyed. She was already at the back door.

"Oh, wait just a moment." Melvin chuckled. He then sprinted to pursue them.

When they were outside, they then approached a horse-drawn carriage. Coming close, they encountered three Agents with their daggers up.

"This is bad." Melvin drew his colt and shot one Agent.

Rederick shot another one with his UZI. Their targets fell easily which surprised King Vulhelm and Hervil.

To them, the Agents were formidable warriors used by the church to assassinate even the mightiest warriors or the most protected noblemen. Killing one Agent was even considered a feat. They were geniuses on dagger-wielding after all.

But to kill them like they were nothing caused Hervil to gasp. "How frightening." Hervil stared at the colt. At first, he was skeptical but now he had no reason to doubt Melvin. Looks like he found some great allies.

Though one Agent was still alive and was heading towards King Vulhelm. As the dagger approached the King, Celine stepped forward and kneed the side of the Agent.

To her surprise, the Agent sidestepped and dodged her.

Celine gasped with the Agent's quick reaction.

On the sides, Stella was alarmed. "Hey! Don't fight the Agent!" She drew her blade and then charged towards the Agent to draw its attention.

The Agent was about to lunge his dagger towards Celine, luckily Stella deflected it with her sword causing the dagger to just brush over her cheek.

Celine then leaped away at a safe distance. "I- I almost died back there right?" She cracked a chuckle.

Stella was annoyed. "You know, you must be an idiot to fight an Agent up close. Stay back!" As the two were exchanging blows, Stella was surprised that the Agent's head exploded and his body just fell to the ground. "Eh?"

Right above, Sting was aiming his sniper. He and Teisha then leaped from the roof and landed above the carriage. "Alright, let's go."

Celine couldn't even respond, she thought she was dead at that time. Melvin grabbed her arm and pulled her to enter the carriage. "What are you doing? We have no time to just daze around."

"Then are we set?" Rederick acted as a coachman. He then whipped the halter of the horse spurring it to gallop away.

During the dusk, the sun clambered up showering the sky with seething red.

There were clamors on the main gate. The refugees living close to the first ring have traveled afar to gather here.

Townsmen and villagers who escaped the goblin army weren't allowed by the guards to enter, thus, they panicked.

"This is horse crap! Where is King Vulhelm?!"

"The goblins are on their way. Please let us enter!"

"Oh Twin Gods, help us!"

Even before dawn, the number of people was increasing little by little.

The guards shoved them. "Calm down, you need to pay the exact fee before you can enter!"

Suddenly, on the ramparts, the pope appeared. He gave a welcoming smile to the civilians. "Allow them to pass. The King has already abused his power with his taxing system and I have abolished it."

There were bright smiles on the people's faces. They were relieved and thankful for the pope's kindness. "Thank you, father!"

"We're saved! Thank the twin gods!"

The guards then agreed and opened the iron gates. Everyone was then allowed to enter the city.

In exchange for being sheltered into the city, they must wear the new twin gods necklace. It was a small price for the people, thus they accepted it.

As things were now, the pope was shifting the monarchy system to the patriarchal power. They have already taken control of most of the citizens, especially the lower class individuals. Their hate for the nobility and the King was well-exploited by the church.

The pope was inside the throne room. He walked casually across to reach the golden throne embroidered with red fabrics and silk.

Pope Meldario sincerely detested King Vulhelm due to his actions of escaping the Trimperial. Worse, Vulhelm rejected his plans on using the Reveallion against the Trimperial enemy. It caused his patience to finally break.

Right now, he would lead the Sillian race to freedom and bring those accursed Mendovians down with the twin god's guidance. He would take matters into his own hands.

One of the robed men appeared from nowhere. He had a triangular hood covering his head. "Father, it looks like Vulhelm has escaped. He is being aided by Senator Hervil and that odd person called Melvin. Looks like catching him back will be tough since the Grim Reaper is on their side."

"Where's Dertuk?" The pope answered as if he knew him.

"He is currently facilitating the goblin army. He won't be here for a while."

"Then I will entrust the capture of his majesty to you."

The robed man sighed. He scratched his head. "Capturing him will be a pain. Hey, can I kill him?"

The pope thought about it for a while. "Fine, but if possible I want him alive. His passing won't be satisfying if he won't face his sins."

The robed man then walked casually away. "Alright, you can count on me, but I'll be using Tinga you know. He he he."

"Hey, don't use your dragon inside the city!" The pope said while annoyed.

However, he didn't listen and went away to do his job.

"Tsk, that carefree moron."

Melvin and the others were hiding inside a manor in the upper district. Looks like Hervil had some allies which he could count on. Its owner was Marquess Luke, one of his friends from the Veus family.

Stella was close to the window. She was constantly eyeing the bridge to heavens and earth. She seems bothered by something.

While Melvin and Rederick were discussing. "Hey Mr. President, I think I have gotten some signal."

Melvin borrowed his phone. He tried calling the VMF, his subordinates, cabinet members, associates but to no luck. Looks like it wasn't strong enough to capture their signal. Though there was one bar.

"This is unfortunate." Regardless, he tried calling Razin, his old friend.

The phone was trying to call...

Then it picked up.

"Who is this? As you can see I'm busy and I have no time to---"

Melvin smiled, no doubt it was Razin's voice. "Hey idiot, you're not even gonna answer your best friend?"

"Me-Melvin? Ahem, I mean Mr. President."

"Huh? That's weird. How am I able to reach you but not the others?" Melvin tried calling the others but with no luck. It was a different case for Razin.

Razin chuckled confidently. "Hehe, you see, we've improved the reception area of our newly improved transmission tower. However, it's not yet available for public use since it's still being tested. Pretty cool aren't I?"

Melvin now remembered that this was what Razin planned to do back then on the radio from before.

Melvin laughed briefly. He then spoke in a serious tone. "Alright enough gloating, listen well, report to the VMF, specifically to the air force and tell them to go to the location once they spot a beacon in the sky. These are my orders. Also, notify them to bring the medical team."
