Second Semester.
Our schedule of classes changed with the change in subjects.
It's the time of the year when we will have to face a new enemy.
A subject called 'Accounting'.
It's the horror of all aspiring accountants.
Back when we were still new students of the ABM strand, we never understood the words of our Seniors about the heart break when the balance sheet became unbalanced.
But in this new semester, we would learn about those anyway, so we should fear nothing and learn more!
"We don't have classes in the afternoon, right?" a certain classmate asked.
"We still have the Accounting subject in the afternoon and after that, we are free to go," another answered, probably hoping that the first speaker would stop all thoughts of cutting classes.
"The new teacher would be the one handling the subject, right? Does she even have any experience teaching?" the first speaker asked.
"None. She's a new teacher. We can't expect something big from her. But I've heard that she's a Bookkeeper," the second speaker answered.
"Oh? Is she a librarian? That doesn't connect well with the Accountancy class," the first one said.
At that time, Blessie interrupted their disrespectful conversation about the new Accounting teacher.
"It's a profession that is similar to being an Accountant, just without the certificate. Gosh, you're all saying that you want to be an accountant someday but you don't know the correlated professions," Blessie sighed, with a hint of disappointment.
"But anyways, we can still cut class after the subject, right?" her expression immediately changed from being disappointed to being excited after talking about cutting class.
What should I expect?
She's the queen of cutting classes in our batch ever since we're in Junior High School.
I mean, I went about asking everyone about their Junior High School life here in this prestigious school.
And their responses are what baffled me and greatly flipped my worldview.
Back in the beginning of the school year, I was so excited about studying in such a prestigious school. Everyone here should be cultured and high profile, right? At least, that's what I expected.
However, when classes started, my views about this school greatly changed.
"Yosh! I won! I already got Tong-its before all of you!" Elaine cheered as she showed off her deck of cards to the students in her circle.
They are in a corner, playing cards while betting their money on it.
Some of my classmates are watching and are betting too.
Other students are watching the door, looking out for an approaching teacher to warn the players of the card game.
If ever a teacher approaches, they would cover the laid cards on the table with their books and go on about doing their daily student life work like reading books, doing their assignments in school and chatting with their seatmates.
They never got caught, as the teamwork they showed made me realize that they were used to this scenario.
Every vacant time, our room would look like a gambling den.
And Blessie is a member of that gambling group of students. A leading member of it, I might say.
"Guys! Adrian brought his jug containing his mix of gin and juice! Have a drink!" France, a friend I also made in the Regional Camp together with Marie five years ago, said as she held the jug.
The jug was not transparent, so I assumed that that's the reason why Adrian safely sneaked in his jug containing the mix of alcohol.
"France, we have a quiz in Accounting later in the afternoon. I would suggest you drink that after class and you should just review for the quiz," I suggested kindly.
As a student who was never exposed to any drinking of alcohol as my parents strictly brought me up, I am against such deeds, especially here in school.
A school is a place of learning, and any acts that would defile that definition does not go with me well.
I already accepted the gambling, because it's reasonable that studying in such a prestigious school gives a lot of pressure and the students would want to vent the stress. But drinking alcohol that makes the school look like a bar crossed something that students should not cross no matter what!
"Just let them be, Rae. Adrian already brought the alcohol. France and the others would drink it, so we should just study by ourselves and hope that they don't flunk the quiz later," Yuri advised as she and Joana dragged me out of the classroom so I won't witness such wicked acts.
We settled down in a bench near the room and opened our notes to study.
And it went well.
I just have to make sure that I don't remember what happened earlier to make me focus on the quiz later.
"I would also want to take a sip from that jar," I heard Yuri whisper that made me look at her instantly.
That look on her face, full of regrets and thirst for the forbidden liquid, made me remember instantly.
No! Don't fall down to their level, Yuri! You're the tease who almost made me go astray! You should hold unto your principles!
"Apparently, Rae is the type who loves studying and hates those that crosses those sacred boundaries," Lisa commented from the side.
"I never noticed that Rae was that studious," Marie answered back, and we went back to our review.
Blessie also took a sip on that jug after we left the room.
In the end, France and her associates took the exam drunk. They almost flunked the quiz, and had to rely on their ever kind seatmates to copy their answers.
Oh, do I also have to mention the cheating methods in this school?
Every two weeks in this school for the second semester, we had to take a long exam for Accounting.
The seating arrangement changed, and now, my new seatmate is Shine, a transferee elected to be the Muse of the class.
She's cheerful, friendly, beautiful and smart, so I liked her immediately.
The day of the biweekly exam came.
"Class, I would get some things in my office. You all take your exam seriously, alright?" our Accounting teacher (the new teacher who is a Bookkeeper) said as she left our room.
And that's when the action happened.
"Rae! Pass your paper here! We need answers for Part 3!" a certain someone from the row behind mine said. She is not to be named but apparently, her name is Blessie.
I reluctantly gave my test paper to her.
I knew that she's just exploiting my smartness. Tch.
However, things went out of hand.
My test paper managed to travel all over the whole classroom!
When I saw out teacher's shadow in the hallway, I immediately panicked and picked up my paper from the other end of the classroom and managed to come back to my original seat covers in sweats.
Luckily, our teacher did not suspect anything.
After the test, Shine comforted me.
"It has been hard on you, Rae. But I'm glad that you became my seatmate," she said while smiling.
Hey, I suddenly remembered Moana.
She greatly resembles that Disney Princess with her hair and skin and her righteous tone.
