Understanding quests

"You should have acted like the cultivator you are, just this simple. You should have gone to the village, ask about the problems plaguing the village, solve them and move on, you weren't supposed to get there more than necessary to do two or three major quests." Nura said, making it sound an obvious statement.

"I'm sorry, but I don't see how this can lead to a different result." Ryu answered.

"So let me ask, why do you think this sect is so underrated?" Nura asked.

"I've questioned about it for a while, and I've reached a few points: first, the problem is geographic, there isn't many resources or action in this place, it's far from civilization; second, the system itself is quite pacific, from what I knew from other systems they push you to a lot of complicated situations; third, there isn't much competition here, maybe everyone is happy enough to get an opportunity to cultivate, and they don't care with their pace at all." Ryu summarized his conclusion regarding the sect.

"This is pretty much correct, and you grasped the general content of things, however, you missed something important, and you from all people should be aware of it." Nura said seriously.

With this dramatic proclamation silence instilled in the place, Ryu's mouth went dry with anticipation, feeling he was about to touch a secret with the potential to change his life, thus he stared at Nura for one minute while waiting for his words.

"How long are you going to keep drama? Tell me already." Ryu when he couldn't hold up for Nura's delay.

"Okay, okay. The truth is that our system is mainly different from others because ours has the greatest freedom, and it will hardly push you to a situation you don't want to be in, unlike the others. I will explain with an example, will be easier this way, imagine if you are walking carelessly and see a robbery, other systems will trigger a quest to defeat or kill the criminal and stop the robbery, but ours will not do this, it will leave the decision completely in your hand, you act or not on your own." Nura explained.

"This difference in behavior makes it look like our system is worse, and for most people, it really is, because not many people would risk their lives to solve other people's problems, and I understand them, the risk tends to overshadow the benefits." Nura continued with the explanation.

In response, Ryu shook his head in agreement while thinking in every quest he received, and remembering that all of them only triggered after he first moved to act, and in some cases, there wasn't even a quest, like that time when he fought Marcel and the others in the forest, or this time when he killed the bully to save Cahya, there was a reward, but there wasn't a quest.

"Disciples from other sects constantly have to act and do quests they would normally prefer not to do, but they receive a good reward for their quests as compensation for losing their choice, which is why they progress faster and other sects are far more famous." said Nura

"There is one more thing to keep in mind when it is about our system. It will not push you to a situation you don't want to be in, but if you decide to do so, your reward will be far greater than that of any other sect, in other words, this system expects you to develop a cultivator mentality by you own, and you of all people should have figured that much long time ago because that skill you got is not something easily achieved." Nura said, looking to see if Cahya and Luise were far enough not to hear about Ryu's skill.

"And just to remember, I wasn't expecting to have to warn you a second time about the importance of that skill, and still you said you have a secret like it was a common thing, what's the point of having a secret if you are going to tell everybody that you have a secret?" Nura reprimanded Ryu again.

"Now that you put it this way, it really makes sense, but let me ask, what exactly is your current level, and what did you do to raise it so fast?" Ryu asked.

"After fighting these guys, my current level is 19, that is because... - do you remember that beating on the first day? - I challenged those guys to force the system to recognize an enemy and set a clear standard to achieve so I could get better quests and gain exp much faster than normal. It cost me a beat, but it was a price I was willing to pay." Nura clarified things.

With that information, Ryu almost passed out surprised. Reaching level 19 in such a short amount of time is a feat far beyond reasonable, even to someone from one of the famous sects with plenty of resources available, that is something unprecedented. Maybe Nura is a genius after all, and the only question that remains is: how did this guy ended up in an unknown sect.

"And me thinking that you were a masochist." Ryu said, laughing aloud.

As he laughed, Cahya and Luise approached, apparently, these two hit it off and became friends.

"So you and Luise went to do quests, and that is how you leveled so fast." Ryu said as if everything was now clear for him.

"Ii's more or less that, my wish was to find something that could trigger a quest, but I was having trouble to find it, and she wanted to go after some beasts causing havoc, but she couldn't go alone, in the end, our objectives aligned and we helped each other, everything went fine," Nura said.

"What beast havoc?" Cahya asked, joining the conversation.

"Do you remember that Silver Luan Bird we saw on the way to the sect? I wanted to get closer and to get a peek at it. I was suspecting that it was hunting to feed a newborn baby after its hibernation period." Luise said, enthusiastic as always when it came to a beast matter.

"It turns out that the beasts all over the place are fleeing the place and these beasts sometimes pass by bringing havoc and destruction to the villages of the commoners. My wish was to see these beasts and study their behavior, while Nura wanted to go to the villages and help them with those beasts." Luise finished her explanation.

"And you were returning to the sect while Cahya found you on the way?" Ryu asked, remembering his surprise when Nura arrived instead of an elder.

"In fact, we're just passing closer to the sect following the fleeing beasts, it was pure coincidence that she found us." Nura said.

With everything settled, the group had one decision to take. They had three corpses of senior disciples to handle, go back to the sect and report everything as self-defense or dispose of their bodies and pretend to know nothing.
