Faeries are real. That was hard enough to stomach, but now, they’ve drafted Rhychard Bartlett into their way. At least they gave him a sword. A sword for crying out loud! Everyone else has guns and magic, and the Guardian only gave him a glowing sword. Some men strive to be heroes. Not Rhychard. Not even a little. Rhychard just wants t go home and propose Renny Saunders. However, a blood-curdling scream changes the course of his life forever.

Surrounded by a two-and-a-half foot ellyll, a 300-pound coshey, and a street hooker, Rhychard squares off against the demon, Vargas, to keep him from building a Gateway to the Nether, still with nothing but a glowing sword. As if that wasn’t tragic enough, Renny thinks he cheated her on her and has kicked him out on his backside.

Needless to say, Rhychard has had better days.

In the back room, Tansy had a small, round carpet, no more than four feet around. She gestured for Buttercup to sit down on one side while she sat across from her, legs folded in front of her in a crisscross pattern, heels under her thighs. Buttercup followed the other woman’s example, sitting with her palms on her knees. “Now, the first thing we have to do is get you to feel what’s inside of you,” Tansy said. “Power resides within all of us that most people deny even exists. Everything has energy. Stones. Plants. Even the air. We borrow from that energy to create our magic. You need to tap into that power and then use it to feel the power around you. Now, close your eyes. Try and block out every sound you hear outside of your body and focus on what you hear inside of yourself.”


Buttercup chuckled. “I usually try to ignore the voices in my head. They make bad decisions.”
