Hayden and Liam stayed by my side like old times. I had no idea what Hayden had said to him during lunch the day he arrived, but whatever it was had flipped the switch and brought back the man I adored. I had so much I wanted to tell him and so many things I needed to make sure he knew, but with Hayden always around, it was difficult to have any time to talk. She didn't have anywhere to go to give us time alone, so for the moment, I enjoyed days filled with my two best friends-even if it was stuck in a hospital bed.
As I neared the end of day five and the contractions hadn't stopped, every time a doctor or nurse walked into the room, I waited for them to say they were stopping the magnesium sulfate. I held my breath until they left, which did nothing but make the day stressful. I didn't want to ask for fear of the answer, but I seemed to be the only one of the three of us who realized this was going to happen.
