Planning my escape

"Come on, girl. Can't you walk any faster?" Tobi whined as I paused every minute to see and take in the beautiful scenery. I couldn't help myself. The view was so beautiful, and even the air smelled fresh and sweet. 'The beauty of nature before civilization.' A thought echoed in my head and my knees buckled. My head hurt and I clutched my hair. What was that? Where did I hear that? Who said that to me? I said as my heart throbbed. I fell to the ground, and tears fell from my eyes.

"Are you having one of your episodes again? We don't have time for this" said my husband, aka Obito Uchiha.

I glared at him, and his voice lowered seeing my face. "Are you okay?" he asked and rummaged through our bag to get me some water. If he did that for me, then I must have looked quite terrible.

"I'm fine," I said, even though both of us knew I was lying. "Let's go."

My episodes, as he called them, were getting more and more frequent. I would suddenly have some flashbacks, blots of my memory, and my past life, and my whole body shuddered at the impact of the memory. I was completely out of control during that time, and I needed more than just a few minutes to revert back to normal. I already knew this was going to be a huge problem for what's to come. I shook my head. Let's worry about that later. Now...

"Where was he last sighted again?"

"Around one of the mist villages. But it's hard to know for sure. Even Zetsu couldn't get his exact location."

That was expected. Sasuke is one of the most wanted criminals. But I'm sure he kept a low profile just to stay out of Konoha's radar. Naruto's radar, I mean.

"Remind me why we're doing this again," whined Obito, and I rolled my eyes. This is the millionth time I'm hearing this. "You'll thank me later." I snapped back and picked up my pace.

"I have no interest in Sasuke Uchiha" he retorted, and I shut him up with," for now".

I didn't really pay any heed to his threatening and his questions. I was too valuable for him to kill, and he knew that even if he forced me, there was no way to confirm if I was telling the truth. He also couldn't use his Sharingan on me, just like Itachi couldn't. Maybe it's because I'm not part of this world? I really didn't know.

"We have to reach Kumogakure before midnight, so walk fast, girl," Obito said, and I looked away.

"It's insulting you know, you calling me that like I don't have a name, no identity," I mumbled and looked down.

"I wasn't exactly trying to be - " he started, then paused. "What is your name then? What do you want me to call you?"

I opened my mouth, but the words died there. I didn't know. I didn't know my own name. I reached up to my face, only to find tears. Stop, I mentally scolded myself, and looked away from him, not wanting to seem weak and pathetic in front of Tobi.

"Leah," he said, and I turned to look at him. I couldn't read his expression, because of his mask, but his voice was a low rumble.

"Your name is Leah." He said, and I couldn't help but smile. Right, that was what he called me when he proclaimed that I was his wife, in order to keep me from getting killed.

"Don't think I'm not planning to kill you, I will soon enough. you're just a fly with a name" he added, and I laughed.

"You're right, but a fly is quite hard to catch and even harder to trap. You should be very careful, slip up once, and you'll lose me forever." I said, and he growled.

We came across an inn and decided to crash there for the night. Before sleeping, I told Tobi that I'm going to get a spare pair of clothes or wash the ones I have. He looked as though he debated following me, then figured he could catch me if I did run away. But no, that was not what I was planning. I went into one of the inns and got a messenger bird, and some paper. Sitting inside the women's baths, I racked my head to remember the code Sunagakure used to inform Konoha about Gaara's abduction. I didn't remember much but wrote the code hoping Shikamaru would somehow crack it. It was a short but clear message.

'Akatsuki member spotted at Kumogakure. Requesting immediate Anbu backup'

- A

I really, really hoped they would send back up before investigating and checking back with Kumogakure if this was actually true. Either way, Konoha or Kumogakure will show up to check out if this was an intended trap or not. And that's all I need. A distraction.

I went back to my room to find Tobi waiting. He looked at my new clothes and looked away. I smiled and fell back on the bed.

"What," I asked, "no snarky comments?"

He snorted and sniffed."at least you don't stink now" I threw a pillow at his face.

"Zetsu just came by," he said, and my heart stopped. Could he have seen-

"He said Sasuke was in one of Orochimaru's previous hideouts. We should reach there in a day or two." He said. And I nodded, even though I knew that already. If Zetsu had seen me then I should have been dead by now.

Of course, there was yet another possibility that he did, but did not inform Obito about it. Or Obito does know and is keeping quiet to see how things play out. Whatever the case, I couldn't really find out.

2 days to reach Sasuke. The Anbu should be here in 2 days.

2 days, and it all comes down.

That chakra. Powerful, cold. Right behind me. I hear a sword pulled out from its sheath and with a blink of an eye, I see it pressed against my neck. that sword. The sword of Kusanagi.

My breath stops.
