"Are you sure we're not lost?" I asked him for the millionth time since we entered the forest. Obito Uchiha scowled at me, or at least I thought he did, cause I couldn't see his expression under his mask. But with his irritated demeanor and sighs, I could figure out what his expressions to some extent I guess
"If you weren't so slow in traveling, and walked faster instead of standing around and gazing all day, we would probably be there by now," he said, and I gasped.
"It's not like I can help it. My body is not used to this much walking. And gazing all day?! You can't even read a map right! That's the reason we haven't reached yet.." I protested.
"Yeah right, turn this all on me."
"Because it is your fault, you liar," I said and poked his mask with my finger.
This usual banter of ours is what kept my mind off what's waiting for me. I still had no idea how things were going to come down when the Anbu arrived. Or when I meet Sasuke.
I cringed at the thought of Obito's reaction when he realizes I betrayed him.
"Hey, Obito... for what it's worth.." I said and looked at him.
"Yeah what?"
"I apologi-" our heads snapped behind us, as we both sensed the chakra and the footsteps behind us. Aren't the Anbu supposed to be sleek and subtle? I could sense them a mile away. And from the looks of it... Looks like Obito can too.
"Get behind me. I'll take care of them" He said, and I shuddered at the harshness in his tone.
This is it. It's time. This is the man who tried to choke me against a wall, one who won't hesitate to kill me. So why is it so hard to leave him?
With his back to me, I'm glad he can't see my face. I clutch his cloak and whisper, "I'm sorry, Obito"
He freezes and turns to look at me as if finally realizing what I'm apologizing for, and shakes his head.
"No... no, don't tell me" he starts as shurikens rain from the sky. I turn around and run.
I betrayed the Akatsuki.
I am being pursued by Konoha.
Death is inevitable now.
I can still sense the chakra of the Anbu following me. The team they sent split into two, one following me and the other fighting Tobi. They are not gonna hold him for long.
I didn't even have time to smile in relief as I reached the hideout. I run into the cave-like structure, well hidden under the thicket of trees. I don't try to be silent, and I know my footsteps are heard as I race along the stony passage.
Sasuke. My mind races and my legs threaten to give out at any second.
Sasuke. I couldn't feel the exhaustion or pain because of the adrenaline, but once it runs out, I'm going to- my thoughts are cut off as I sense it.
That chakra. Powerful, cold. Right behind me. I hear a sword pulled out from its sheath and with a blink of an eye, I see it pressed against my neck. That sword. The sword of Kusanagi.
My breath stops.
"Nice to finally meet you, Uchiha Sasuke."
