"Is anyone seating here?" I looked up and saw the same unfamiliar man who came by my desk earlier.
"Ahh." but before I could answer someone answered for me.
"We're actually having lunch with her, and I don't think there's extra room for you." Janice said with Charles and Axel on tow.
"Ahh. Okay. I guess I'll see you around Cath." He said giving me a smile before walking away from our table.
"You guys are lifesavers." I said sighing in relief, just thinking about having lunch with that guy with just the two of us is giving me indigestion.
"You looked like you could use some help." Charles confessed as they sat down with me.
"Why are you eating alone anyway?" Janice asked again.
"Where's Andrea?" Axel asked.
"She's still in a meeting. She said she'll have lunch later. And that's how I'm left by myself in this faithful day." I said with a bit of dramatic flare.
"You don't look too lonely from a by passer's point of view." Janice, knowingly commented as she munched down on her salad.
"Guys have been hovering around you the whole day. What gives?" Charles asked making his girlfriend look at him like he was crazy or something.
"Cupcake, are you really that blinded with my own beauty that you can't see how different Cath is looking today?" She asked, making all of us laugh at her self praise.
"Babe, I know that she looks a bit different today, but not much has changed, really." He explained.
"And I mean that in the best way possible. I just mean that you've always look beautiful, not as beautiful in my eyes as my cupcake here but, yeah." Charles continued stuttering through his words, explaining the best he could making the three of us laugh out loud while his face turn beet red.
"Its fine Charles. Honestly, that's the best compliment I got in a long time. Thank you!" I said to him.
"He's right you know? You're just the type of girl who doesn't give that much effort in you looks but that doesn't mean you're not pretty in your own rights." the quiet Axel said making all three of us look at him suspiciously.
"Thanks." I replied to him with a smile. Its been a long time since I've been called beautiful or pretty by other people with the exception of Andrea and Zab, and I must admit, it makes me feel good. It makes me feel confident and maybe, just maybe, I'll have the confidence to meet Matt soon.
The whole week went by uneventful, unless you want me to count my sister waking me up incredibly early everyday of the week to help me with my make up and clothes. Belle has been more bitchy that usual but I couldn't be bothered with her especially with all the work lined up that I needed to finish. And without and hiccups I finished all if them.
I looked at the time and its just passed three o'clock in the afternoon and I've finished all the work I have this week. Looks like I have time to spare, I closed my computer, saving all the reports, revisions, templates and storylines that I worked on for the pass week. Took my wallet and phone and went straight to Andrea's cubicle.
"Let's go get some food!" I said to her as soon as I reached her station and she just stared at me, looking all stressed out.
"Don't you have any work to do?" she asked with a bit of annoyance in her voice.
"Just finished everything." I answered cheerfully at her and she turned to look at me again, this time, in awe.
"You finished everything?" she asked and I just nodded at her teasingly.
"Get out of my face before I punch you in the gut for flaunting your overachiever butt in my face!" she jealously ranted as I laugh at her childishness.
"Want something when I get back?" I asked and her eyes immediately turned soft and full of love.
"I could use a turkey sandwich. Thank you CathCath! Love you!" she said pulling me into a tight hug.
"Copy that. See you later." I said pulling away from her hug and going my way out of the office.
I entered the elevator alone feeling as perky as ever but before it fully closed, it opened again and I was faced with none other than my boss.
"Good afternoon Sir." I greeted as he entered that elevator. The doors closed and it was just the two of us in close quarters and I somehow felt a bit flushed and awkward after what happened the other day in his office. I don't want him to think that I'm unprofessional or something.
"I've noticed that you've been dressing a bit differently these past few days Catherine. Don't get me wrong, its suits you. I guess I'm just not used to seeing you like this." He calmly said as the elevator started going down.
"Its my sister. She said that it'll help me build up my self-esteem again." I explained to him and I could see him smirk a bit through his reflection.
"Ah I see. By the way, where are you going?" He asked his tone began to radiate warmth again, unlike the last time we had a conversation.
"I finished all my work early so I wanted to get something to eat while I wait for five o'clock." I answered.
"I'm getting something to eat too. Want to tag along?" he asked.
"Sure sir." I answered immediately without any second thoughts. I guess I felt great having to talk to him comfortably again after getting scolding earlier this week.
We talked all the way to his car and then drove off to the nearest sandwich restaurant. I immediately ordered all the things that I want, including Andrea's tuna sandwich, my beef sandwich and two small tubs of ice cream.
"Could you eat all of that?" Gavin asked curiously.
"The other sandwich and ice cream is for Andrea. She still has lots of work to do so I insisted in getting her some." I replied as we got in the elevator in our building.
"You two seems really close." he commented, making me smile a little.
"She's the closest I have to a family, well, excluding my little sister. She knows me best." I replied to him and he just nodded while thinking deeply about something.
Our silence was broken by the sudden thud of the elevator. We heard rattling from outside the elevator. The elevator began to tremble a bit, the lights inside were flickering away. Then finally, the elevator stopped moving and the lights turned off for good.
"Are you okay?" He asked me immediately as the ruckus seized.
"Yeah. I'm fine." I answered putting down the bag of food in my hands and taking my phone out.
"No signal." I muttered as Gavin tinkered with the controls.
"I pressed the emergency button. They'll fix this soon." He said as he sat down on the floor. I couldn't think of any other way to get out so I joined him. We both opened our paper bags and started to have a picnic on the floor of the elevator.
"I guess you made the right call in getting some drinks too." I commented as I drink from one of the bottle soda that he bought.
We sat there, after finishing our meals. Counting the time that had gone by, five, ten, twenty minutes have gone by and we're still stuck inside the elevator. Finally, as the thirty minute mark pass by, the lights inside suddenly turned on.
I stood up immediately, with Andrea's food in hand and Gavin immediately followed me.
"Finally!" I exclaimed, stretching my whole body, making me unprepared for its sudden jerk. With one big thud and rattle, I lost my balance and I fell backwards onto the wall. Followed by an out of balance Gavin. He tumbled in front of me, pinning me to the wall. Both of his arms are placed beside my head preventing him from crushing me.
I stared up at the soft chocolate eyes, staring straight into mine. His eyes looked at me like he was seeing right through my soul. I don't know why, but I can't push him away, or maybe I don't want to. His warmth spread unto my body like flame on gasoline and no matter how I tell myself how inappropriate we might look, I like how being this close to him makes me feel.
"Sir." I began, but was immediately cut of by another sudden movement of the elevator. Both of us were taken by surprise and this time his palms slid from the elevator walls, closing the gap between us. The next thing I knew, his soft lips were already on mine. And rather than pulling away, his hands found there way to my waist and pulled me deeper into the kiss. But what surprised me even more, is that I was responding to every movement his lips are making.
We both heard a sudden ping, It felt like we were both doused with cold water. We immediately pulled away from each other, straightening ourselves up as the elevator doors flew open.
