The words struggled to escape Reyna's mouth but not a single squeak got out. She could only stare at him as he got the phone from the cabinet and placed on the couch. She didn't hear what he said next, the static running between her ears drowned out his voice and she was too distracted to read his lips.

She didn't understand what he was saying but her head nodded on its own and the static faded. Her eyes were downcast focusing on her palms which she couldn't even see. Her mind strained against whatever it was that held her body captive.
