Just Another High School Story!

She tucked her loose hair behind her ear, and spoke, "Thank you about earlier, I'm really sorry you had to see that. But please don't tell anyone.", and she said this with a smile on her face. Her eyes, filled with purity, and softness, melted Ethan to his core, he felt butterflies in his stomach and immediately made a lip sealing gesture. From afar, Mindy was looking at them, and she cringed, "I'm gonna nail you to the wall L-e-a-h." She drew her name out weirdly. The girls that had enrolled their names for the position of Head Girl were: Leah Sanders, Linda Sanders, and Mindy Allen. Everyone started voting and so a week passed, classes went on as normal and voting continued. Leah was really busy with a story she was writing, so she didn't even have the time to worry about the results at all.

--One Week Later--

The assembly in which the results would be announced, the 'coronation' as the kids called it was finally happening. Leah had put on her best outfit, a black t-shirt, and black jeans with a beautiful pink scarf that shaped itself around her neck adorably, her long hair was open and pinned back at the edges by two adorable bunny pins. Ethan saw her as she was stepping out of her car, nervously, and clumsily, and his heart skipped a beat, he knew she was beautiful but dang, girl could dress up. He jumped like a little kid, and walked towards her but before he could get to her, Shawn rushed to her from behind and cupped her eyes with his hands, with his collar tightly gripped, in between his teeth, trying to distort his voice, he said, "Guess who?" Leah laughed and turned around, "It is you. Shawn." "Hey, don't worry Head Girl, I'm sure you've won, I mean after that speech, whatch-you-worryin-bout?"

Ethan was, at first walking towards them, but soon saw that a couple of kids from Middle School were playing basketball near the place where Shawn and Leah were standing, he got a mischeivous idea and flitted along to the kids joyfully. "Hey," he asked the little kids, "Can I please join?" "S...sure!" the kid said hesitantly, the schools shared a basketball court or wing between the middle and high school kids, they said that it promoted cooperation. Ethan was the coolest guy in school, obviously his charm had done its magic. The kids were very excited and started playing, after a couple of dribbles, Ethan shot his basketball... not towards the basket, towards Shawn's head, and it hit him, right where he'd aimed. "Ouch!" Shawn exclaimed in pain, and Leah looked at Ethan standing behind Shawn with the ball in his hand, "Sorry didn't see you there!" he said as he winked at Leah and left happily. The little kid marvelled at what happened, he walked towards Ethan and asked, "You play basketball really well, I've seen you play before, manoeuvring even the most difficult passes and baskets with excellence, how did you make such a mistake." Ethan was in a good mood as he saw Shawn scurry away the moment his head was hit, he smiled to himself, proud of his accomplishment, and answered the kid, "He's trying to take something that is mine, absolutely off limits. Therefore, it wasn't a mistake but on purpose, kiddo." The kid smiled and said, "Is it that pretty girl?" "Woah, you're a grown up dude!" Then he gestured for the kid to fist bump him and left after saying goodbye, he walked across to Leah who was trying to suppress her laughter at the scene that had just taken place in front of her wasn't hilarious to her, she was trying to fake laugh and make it all flow. "Don't do that." Ethan said as he took her bag and started walking, "Hey, wait up!" She said and followed after him, "Give it back to me." she said annoyed. "Quit whining like a child and stop doing that." he hit her with that. "What? What did I do?" Leah asked, befuddled and trying to recount what had happened, found nothing weird had happened, or at least nothing that she knew of. "I'm talking about you faking your smile and laughter." Ethan said as he carried both his and her bag, he liked her a lot and wanted to say something but she was hesitant, after all Leah was very complicated, he often compared her to test results, you think you rocked it and bam, you're hit with a score you couldn't have imagined, he felt like she was the test, a test that you give, for whose results you're supposed to wait for ages, this test is important and you can never tell whether you've done badly or not, Leah was a difficult math problem, no matter how much he tried to approach the problem with solutions, the answer never showed itself, instead the problem became a riddle, an unsolvable puzzle. Ethan was very romantic and had dated a lot of girls, but he never truly felt anything for any of them. Leah was the only one he had liked in middle school but she never spared him a glance and the result was this mess that he'd ended up in: he bullied her in middle school to get her attention, so that she wouldn't bother about other boys, but when he saw her on the rooftop that day, yes, you had guessed correctly, it was in fact Ethan who had witnessed her puking her guts out that day, and he'd heard her say that she hated herself, he thought that she was perfect but what could have made her hate herself, he wondered if it was because of him.

Ethan was your typical cool guy, he never shed a tear or showed emotions, he just viewed as the 'Mr popular' when in all honesty, he was an intellectual being, with lots of emotions and thoughts, he wanted someone he could connect with and felt that Leah was the only one who'd understand him, he wanted to be hers and for him to be his. He wasn't sure what this feeling of desperation and longing was, he just knew that he really liked her. The first time that he admitted it to himself was when he was leaving two years ago, in middle school, when he was in the plane to Paris, all he wanted to do was see her. Out of all his friends, she was the only one, the one person he longed for. That day when the plane finally took off, he muttered to himself, I'll come back for you... wait for me. To his surprise, two years later, she had waited for him, seeing as she didn't have a boyfriend, despite the fact that she hung out with so many guys, he was pleased to see that her heart was unoccupied, he would make sure to fill it up with himself.

But just as Nathaniel Hawthorne said, to win a woman's heart is never easy.

In the assembly hall, the girls and the boy, stood on the stage, while the principal held results of the 'Electric Elections', as the kids called it, speculations were that whomever became head girl was bound to be Ethan's girlfriend. Kids were even betting on it, some said that it would take a year, others thought that Ethan was already dating one of the three girls.

"Good Morning, kids!" the principal greeted the noisy audience with a smile, "I'm very excited to announce the results for the 'Electric Elections' as I've heard you call them, first let's talk about head boy, since no one else put their name as a candidate, Ethan was bound to be head boy, let's give him a huge applause and I wish him a great year, I hope he'll revolutionise the school." At this Ethan stepped up and gleefully shook hands with the principal, the principal pinned a badge on him, and whispered something in his ear, he was exited to hear the news, meanwhile, Leah was biting on her lip, she wondered why she had put in her name for head girl, Ethan was going to be head boy, that almost meant acting as his girlfriend, for Head Boy and Head Girl were always together, planning events, coordinating sports, cultural, social, debating, all events that occurred in the school, inter school competitions were also a sweet treat that came with this responsibility. She didn't mind the work at all, she just hadn't imagined that Ethan would be the head boy, she was a little scared of him, after all the scars that he had left were still there, and you couldn't forgive someone that ruined your life so easily, could you? She had a good feeling after her speech, she had pretty much imagined herself winning the throne, she had promised herself, not to let the fact that Linda was participating as her competitor faze her, at first when she realised Linda had put in her name, she had thought about offering to withdraw, but when they were walking home late at night, after the announcements of the candidates, Linda had suddenly become 'Godzilla-version-X', she started giving Leah an earful about how she was the worst sister in the world and that after taking a place in the cheerleading tryouts, why'd she have to butt in here too? They had a huge fight and since then they hadn't been speaking to each other. Leah felt like her play was coming to life, but she did not want that. She loved Linda but what could she do? After all, love can't be forced, it has to be mutual.

She hated the fact that Linda accused her of being false and manipulative when she knew that Leah did everything fair and square, I mean, come on, they shared a room for God's sake, Linda claimed that Leah'd deliberately hid the fact that she was participating in the elections a secret from her, she called her a bitch, a first for both of them, as they never ever cursed at each other, that was the first time, the first time ever.

"Finally, all of you have been desperate to hear the results for which one of these young ladies has become the Head Girl, first of all, I'd like to congratulate them all for trying out, the competition was fierce and your speeches awesome, but the new Head Girl for Wilson's High is..."
