The marine turned around to readjust his position when he saw the young people enter, he'd become acquainted with Ethan, who'd been volunteering at the hospital, for a while now, he'd wanted to familiarise himself with the place for Leah's convenience, he'd not have thought that she would need to visit any of the rooms just yet but he couldn't wait anymore. The old marine greeted Ethan with a smile and said, "Who's the pretty lady, your girlfriend?" Ethan didn't give Leah time to answer, smile or nod, he looked at Lucas, the soldier, and earnestly pleaded, "Please tell her your story, she takes life for-granted. She doesn't care about others, she lives in a world that's painted with the words me, myself and I. She doesn't realise that there are people that breathe just to see her happy and healthy." E emphasised the word 'healthy'. And Lucas understood who the girl was, he'd talked to him about her, told him that he regretted everything that he'd done, and sometimes felt like ending his own life because of his mistakes, if only that could take Leah's pain away but unfortunately, Leah wasn't the type who'd live for him, he was pretty sure if left unsheltered and unprotected, she'd take her life, and follow in his footsteps.
Lucas had been nothing but a huge help, his advisor for the past couple of days, not only was Lucas' story beautiful, it was also worth listening to a hundred times over and over, until your eyes were too tired to shed another tear. His plan was to show Leah, how easily her life could actually be taken away, he thought about how she resembled Emily Dickinson in ways that he'd rather not see her, Leah talked about death like people talked about the weather, it came up whenever something important was to be said. His plan was to make her value her life by seeing that she wasn't the only one with problems, many people had to fight to live a day. The marine smiled sweetly at Leah, who was pushed onto a chair, to sit, by Ethan. He stood in the corner, he'd spent days working on something special for Leah, he'd spent nights looking at starry, inspiring quotes, but she'd ruined it all, he didn't want to give her the stupid gift anymore, all he wanted was for her to be alive. He was scared that he'd scarred her so bad that maybe one day, she would actually do it, he knew she'd tried to end her life more than once. Lucas got all serious and after clearing his throat, and shifting into a comfortable position where he could see Leah's face, to look at her in the eye while he told his story, he thus began, "When I was seventeen, I lost my mom, the only family member I had at the time, to cancer, she was...", his voice was steady, this affirmed Leah's first thought, when she'd seen him, he wasn't a guy to be messed with, he'd seen life, and faced it, in conclusion, her heart was already a receiver, she wanted to gain something from this conversation, she was surprised by her reaction to his opening sentences, she had initially thought, she would do this thing that she always did whenever she wanted to tune something out, she'd sing inside her head, or think about lyrics and try to translate them to any other language she knew, she spoke six languages in total, this totally exempted her mind from learning or listening to anything, but today, instead of humming to herself like a maniac to tune good things out, she wanted to try, she wondered why, was it because Ethan wanted her to try?
If so, why... why would something E want hold so much value for her, her heart raced as she looked at the calm figure, who was now leaning against the door, his eyes were closed, he was in deep contemplation, Leah wondered whether she'd finally found something she'd always been looking for, a boy that made her heart race, a boy who was dominant and could make Leah bend to his will by just a look, on top of that a guy that loved her. She wondered whether what she was thinking was possible, int hat moment she realised that she loved him.
Did he love her too? She wanted to know, she wished she could ask again, and again, and again. Why was the answer so scary, she was scared if he'd say yes, and scared to hear no!
