Ah, if only she could, she tried to feel these things, feeling flattered when E said what he said, but she couldn't feel anything, instead, she just felt super annoyed, what was his deal, dinner, that word was the problem, didn't he understand, she wouldn't touch the food, her ideal date would probably be going to the gym, and lifting weights.
Their finals were approaching and then it was summer break, but before finals, there was a dance, a formal dance to let the students relax before they went into full boil mode, and the things that were boiling weren't things but the students, Ethan was excited, since it would be their first dance, he could finally dance with her.
What happened next in succession crushed him, though, opposite to what he'd wished would happen, and shattered their relationship. They went from lovers to haters in no time. When the foundation of a relationship isn't strong, it is easier to break than to hold on.
Ethan was walking around with Leah, near sunset, and the setting sun was visible just enough, to give the young lovers a romantic setting and more than enough privacy, but Ethan suddenly became fidgety. "Of course, he's going to do it." Leah thought to herself, Leah supposed that Ethan would break up with her or tell her that he needed a break, Leah only thought these things because she hoped that was it. She was exhausted, mentally, physically, spiritually, her mindset was at breaking point, no matter how much she tried, she still couldn't get out from under the claws of her weaknesses, and her disease was seriously killing her, but that was nothing new. This was new. She needed... wanted to be away from Ethan for a while, she wasn't getting any better, and his presence was like a gun pointed at her head, the pressure was killing her, and so she hoped that they could be alone this summer. If they were together, Leah might pull the trigger herself. She'd rather bleed than be with Ethan right now.
Whenever she looked in the mirror, a voice in her head said that she wasn't good enough for Ethan, the school star, she was just a fatso, and she couldn't wear anything tight, her body dysmorphia was at an all time high. Since, she was conscious of herself even more than before now, before, she'd be in her sweats all the time, now she wore jeans, and even though she liked them, she hated the way her jeans didn't fit her, hug her waist like they did for others. She wanted to lie down, and cry; complain but Ethan couldn't understand, to him, it was incomprehensible, he ate if he wanted and laid if he wanted, it was like it didn't bother him at all, his body image I mean, Leah was a mess because of stress, and he was just there, setting a great example, she was trying to better her relationship with food, but not in the right way, she was eating everything but too little, and some foods, she'd completely cut off from her life like butter, and she'd freak out in front of weighing scales, Ethan was becoming annoying, he ate her food, just a bite, but that was all Leah ate, a bite, how could she share? Leah hated this habit of E, but she couldn't say anything, she was worried that if they had an argument they'd break up, but now she just wanted to let go, she didn't care anymore, hold me if you like and go to hell if you don't, that was written on her face right now.
E pulled out a rose from nowhere and asked, "Hey beautiful, go to the dance with me?" The originally anticipant Leah was now feeling idiotic, of course, the stupid dance, what else could it be, what else could he possibly care about? "Yeah, why not." she said, despite herself, as unhappily as she could, and E noticed her weird look and said, "But you don't have to if you don't want to." with a look that said the complete opposite. In that moment, both were annoyed with each other in that moment but held back. The glass was now full, and more water would mean overflowing, they were already detached, each could see through the other, they were soulmates but this wasn't the right time for them.
Mindy's forces, and prediction were both working, she was right about them breaking up, and they did even earlier than she'd predicted but what she couldn't guess was what would happen after the break up. Wilson's High was about to become a rollercoaster ride, and all you could do was buckle up and brace yourself.
Think about this, Leah had become popular because of her attitude, but her attitude wasn't real, since she was faking it most of the time, what would be the aftermath when her attitude would change for real, when her confidence and image would shoot up, she'd become the queen, obviously. But what would she have to sacrifice? And would her king be with her or would be become her enemy, someone whom she couldn't confide in, someone who'd joined the enemy territory?
Ethan went to the dance with Leah, but Leah wasn't in the mood for banter, she'd plugged her ears, and only smiled a 'hi' at him. What now, was Ethan's only thought, and though he hid it well, she saw through him, "Wow, you guys look so cute." Everyone shouted compliments at them, the music playing was to their taste, a mix of everything, Pop, Hiphop, R&B, Rap, K-Pop, what not? Ethan got a little dizzy toward the end of the party, Leah hadn't danced with him... not once, not at all, she'd just sat in a corner, and was reading a Webtoon on her phone, not so secretly. E couldn't understand her deal, she'd come but what for. So he'd asked some of the Basketball boys to lend him their 'water'. He went to where Leah was sitting and grabbed her wrist, her phone fell, and before she could say or do anything, he was forcefully kissing her, she didn't mind, but she couldn't help be disgusted at the smell coming from him, had he drained a keg or something, what was with the weird smell dude? The song playing wasn't a slow song, I need u, by BTS, perfect for what E wanted to say. Leah's stomach was hurting, she was barely able to sit properly, he started dancing, and dragging her along, he had a tight, death grip on her waist, and was swaying her with him; he wasn't dancing to the rhythm, he was dancing to the anger, and hurt he felt, she hadn't been a good girlfriend, he'd been giving and giving, until he couldn't anymore but she'd been aloof, the way she was when he'd first met her, and been the bully, right now he wasn't looking at his girlfriend, he was looking at the girl that had hurt him, he had reached his breaking point of giving without receiving anything and so today was the day that their love story would flip around, by 360, and the turn wouldn't be good. She couldn't breathe properly, the music was too loud, and suddenly, she was back to the time when Ethan had scared her, when he'd bullied her and she hated him again. With the same intensity as before. All the I love yous, the I miss you notes, messages, his tears, his help, they didn't mean anything, they escaped her mind, and she hated him, she yanked his hand away, and yelled, "Get the fuck away from me." He was forcing himself on her, drunk, obviously, thank god that seniors were hosting this dance and no teachers were present. Ethan would have gotten into a lot of trouble and maybe even lost his position as Head Boy, he grabbed her wrist, twisted it, and was pulling her, closer, yet it seemed like she was running far away, his brain short-circuited, the whole scene was a mess, the DJ, after grappling around a little, finally shut the music down, they were going to make a scene, why not let their music make the noise? Everyone began taking videos, this was going to be epic and something they could use to get likes on Instagram, Mindy was just sitting there, smiling in the corner, her prediction was indeed correct, she'd said that they wouldn't last long, look what happened, they were even making a scene about breaking up with each other, this was going to be fun, she could use this to torture Leah in the future, at that moment, she thought to herself, "See how I conquer your man, and then dump him! Then you'll know who the true boss is."
