Just Another High School Story!

With Ethan on Mindy's side, Leah was alone, without real support, she was breakable, in short, and vulnerable, little did Mindy know that strong winds yield strong characters, Leah wasn't vulnerable or alone at all, she did not just have herself, which was the first and foremost priority, to make that a reality, but in all honesty, she had so many people, she had Mia, she had her sister who was closer to her, more than ever, Linda had ended up dating Matt, and Leah was really happy.

Matt had told Leah he liked her first, this summer, it was so sudden and out of nowhere that she was startled, she did not want to break his heart, and was obviously not even interested because of Ethan. She still loved him, it would be wrong to date another guy, so she'd decided against dating altogether, what was this all of a sudden?? She had told him about her true feelings, and he had said that he understood but actually, he was pretty devastated, he had liked her since freshmen year, the beginning of their high school lives, but Ethan had swooped in like an announced hero. He had missed his chance though and seeing her became awkward, but then through repeated interactions because they practically lived in the same neighbourhood-- how can he avoid someone who walks past his house everyday-- he had slowly felt better and they had hung out-- Linda, her and Matt-- he had gotten closer to Linda. It was easy to replace Leah with Linda because he hadn't really liked Leah at all, at least not as much as he thought, he'd just thought he did, as teenagers, our impulses often mislead us, so even though there are many broken hearts, the people to mend them are numerous too, when Leah had rejected him, no matter how polite or how subtly, it had hurt too much, he'd been gloomy and felt restless, but Linda had a sunny personality, totally opposite to Leah, they were a perfect fit, his disposition was similar to Leah, and the balance between him and Linda so perfect that she could say there was never a better match. She'd liked hanging out with them at first but then they started being all lovey-dovey, she was like 'hello, a single, dumped girl here, take it easy on the PDA' but she felt it was unfair, they held back many times because of her, she felt like a third wheel soon enough, though she was not ever made to feel like she was unwelcome, one can usually take a hint from the atmosphere, also, it was weird to see your twin with her first boyfriend. As a person, she'd never understood the impulse that guys got when they saw their siblings with significant others, guys would usually be cold their sister's boyfriends, and so she was shocked when she realised she did not want to see Linda go through the same pain that she was going through, after her break up, the pain had become habitual, it was a soft ache, a recurring sound, something deep inside of her heart, a feeling no one else but herself could understand, at least she thought so, it was the same for Ethan, as opposed to her thoughts, Ethan was the one person who could understand, because it was the exact same for him.

Heartache was like any other repeating thing, no matter how annoying, if incessant enough, you get used to it, she'd gotten used to it too, it didn't cease to hurt, but she could not do anything, except believe that time heals all wounds, she had not realised that seeing Ethan would be taxing, but it was, she did no show it, he did not show it, and the both of them were exhausted, repulsed by how the other had fared just fine, they took a look at each other, and sneered, "Where was love? Was there anything between us at all?"

There were so many questions that needed to be asked, too many almost but not one came out, just a sigh, and a "Oh, I wish...", life is like that sometimes, so are people. The habit of holding it in, and never saying what you feel has turned us into a society of donkeys, idiots, no word has yet been invented for the fools that we are today, if you won't say it, if you haven't said it, how will someone know; we assume, and assumptions lead to accusations, which lead to tension, chaos, and complexity, a complexity that can be untangled, a complexity that is not so intense, a complexity that is created and can be made into nothingness, but like any great writer can tell you, love was never an easy thing, and the obstacles only make a relationship stronger.

Leah was fine now, and so, she could play Volleyball, it was their first game after coming back from summer break, and like the coach always did, he arranged a mixed match between the two teams, there was a development in the team that Leah had no idea about, Mindy had officially and permanently joined the girls' team, this was obviously not unusual since many people join clubs but Mindy had never been one to play, she was a cheerleader too, Leah had cut that out, Mindy had written something into her schedule, included it just for fun. She could mess with Ethan and Leah completely, because on the field she'd have a chance to mess up, and accidentally make Leah trip, or hit her on the head with the ball, after all, she was just a beginner, and a beginner makes mistakes, right?
