Doubt

The lockdown ended, and days passed. The first few days afterwards were mostly just getting used to the new setting, and going to class. The first couple days of class weren't that special either. All I did was watch other people use their abilities, even though the thing I wanted to do in the first place was practice with my new power. After the lockdown, I told one of the staff about my power, and they prohibited me from using it anymore, until given permission. I had no idea why though. I sighed, leaning back against the wall. This day was the same as the others. I was stuck sitting in my chair, watching everyone else get to do cool things with their powers.

One of the people I was watching, Kenal, His power was what everyone called 'Crydrokinesis' - a mix of Cryokinesis, and Hydrokinesis. Basically, he can control water, and ice.

Another person, the person that Star thought I was - Ralos - his ability was called 'Armory.' Basically, he could summon a sword, and shield made out of a weird gray, almost glowing, metal. Apparently it was a certain type of metal that only Abilities can create, made up completely of A particles. It was also stronger than steel.

Then, finally, there was Kenra. Her ability was called 'Mind'. It increases the intellect of whoever uses it, so not that 'showy' of a power. She was mostly quiet, but when she did talk, it was mostly bragging about how much smarter she was than the rest of us. She was already smarter than all of us without using her power.

Those were the people really worth mentioning. Well, except Ram, but I already knew what it was. I stared at the ceiling for a bit, before glancing back at everyone training their abilities. Then at the teacher standing at the back of the class, just watching, until he met my eyes. He stared for a moment before walking over.

"I think it's been long enough." For some reason, he didn't seem to be talking to me. He paused. "You are allowed to go and use your ability." I stopped. "Really?!" He nodded, and I immediately bolted towards the training side of the room. Basically, our classroom had two sides - a training side, about as big as a gym, and the teaching side, the place where we actually learn stuff like math, english, history, etc. Anyway, as I got to the other side of the room, I stopped.

There wasn't really anything that I could use my ability on here, so there was kinda no point as to training. Well, that's what I thought until I heard someone scream. I glanced over, and Ram, who was just flying around, was now suddenly falling. Everyone except the teacher started panicking. All he did was stare at me, as if waiting for me to do something. Then I realized - he probably was waiting for me to do something. He knew that with my ability I could slow the fall. But… he also looked like he expected her to fall. I shook the thought out of my head. Ram was only seconds from hitting the floor, when I put my hand out, and slowed time on her legs. If I froze her whole body, then she would still have the same velocity, but it just looked slower. If I did it to one specific part of her body, sure that part would have the same velocity, but the rest of her body wouldn't because that one part was slowed in time.

Ram slowly slid out of the slow time zone, before landing on the ground, from a safe distance. I looked at the slow time spot, and returned it back to normal. Everyone just stared at me, then at Ram. some of them flooded to Ram, the rest to me. "Woah, what was that?!" Kenal asked. "Whatever it was, it looked awesome!" "Yeah, What was that?!" Another asked. I just stood there, as I connected the dots. When the teacher said 'I think it's been long enough.', did he mean Ram? He allowed me out so I could save her… but why couldn't he just tell Ram to get down?

"Helloooo? You there?" Kenal asked. "Y-Yeah, I'm fine." "Good! Now, the question we all want to know the answer to, just what is your power?" I smiled. "Not gonna tell." The crowd let out a breath of disappointment that I didn't know anyone was holding. "C'mon!" Kenal said. "Yeah, tell us!" I sighed. "Okay, Fine, I'll tell you. My power… is…" I paused for dramatic effect. "Time Manipulation." The crowd, for some reason, cheered. "Great! Another powerful one in the class!" Someone in the crowd said. "Yes, Yes, very great. Now - what can you do with your power?" Kenal asked. "Ooh! Can you like, start and stop time!?" someone said. "Can he go back in time? That would be soo cool!" another said. "No… at least not yet. Right now I can only slow down, and stop time in a small sphere. What you saw me do was just slowing time down in a small space." I could feel the disappointment. "Heyy, it's fine! That's cool too! Who knows, he might be able to do that if he trains enough!" Kenal said, trying to up the mood of the crowd. "Yeah! Then our class would basically be unstoppable!" "Woah, woah, woah. What do you mean our class would be unstoppable? Is there something I don't know about?" Everyone stopped. "Ahhh, I forgot, you're new." Kenal said.

"Basically, every year, all of the classes compete in a tournament to see which class is the strongest. It's just a series of mini-games, but the winner," he paused, smiling. "Get the rest of the year off of school, and then the person who got the most points," he paused again, still smiling. "Gets to move on to what everyone calls 'Phase Two'. What it does is - get ready for it - it upgrades your power, making you become more powerful. Nobody knows how they do it, no one remembers what happens when they start transforming, but that's just because the transformation is… well, really painful. And, I have a feeling, you might be moving onto stage two." The crowd started cheering again, before the teacher dispersed it. "Alright, Alright everyone. That's enough. Get back to your seats." Everyone immediately did as they were told, and class continued. And then, I had a feeling that getting to 'Stage Two' wasn't all that it seemed to be.
