Chapter 4: School Part 1

Previously...

She watched the passing buildings, and loitering students here and there as the car drove towards the main campus building. They have a few more minutes left until they reached their destination. As she was observing the clouds above the trees a thought came up that brought a pleasant smile to her face.

Everything is going according to plan.

St. Gabriel Academy.

A prestigious private school for the rich, the famous, even the extremely posh, the creme de la creme of high society. In other words elites. Children from reputable families are sent here to study all they need to know, from fashion trends to sports to running their own business. The academy provides it all and then some.

One thing that sets off the academy from the rest is the fact that it's isolated from the world located in the middle of a reserve. A vast land of forest and greenery stretches out far and wide, as far as the eye can see, surrounding the walls of the academy. A few miles behind it, a huge wall of mountain ranges extending from one side to the next.

Soon, the car that Calypso and Ren are riding rolls through the entrance of the main building. A beautiful golden archway held up by two white marble pillars with the academy's logo at the center can be seen as you drove through the long gravel driveway to the main lobby.

As they approached the roundabout to be dropped off, Ren sneered, "You're not getting off here."

Calypso looked at her master as he continued with, "Drop her off at the side entrance." He finished never looking at Calypso as he ordered this to Joe, the driver.

Joe answers, "As you wish." as he was holding the door open for him. Hearing this Ren got out and headed inside. Joe closing the door afterward.

He suavely marches away with his hands in his pockets. A boy with black hair, probably a friend of his, thrown his arm around Ren but was shrugged off after. A few people started to admire Ren as he strode across the hall. Calypso breath out as she watched her master being ogled by his surrounding fans.

It's only been a few minutes and he's already giving me a headache, she peeved as she stared at the scene that was slowly moving away from her view, as Joe drove out the roundabout and into a side road.

The side entrance was 2 kilometers away from the main building where Ren was dropped off. The academy comprises a lot of buildings, with the main building campus having four structures. One at the middle, Two at the sides, and the last one at the back. To say that the academy is huge is an understatement. There are six other buildings, not including the main campus building and the mall located inside the reserve.

"And we've arrived. This is your stop, Miss." Calypso looked to her front to see Joe staring at her with help of the rearview mirror.

"Thanks, Joe." She muttered as she gathers her bag and her master's as well.

"Anytime, Koori no Kitsune," he smiled as he watched Calypso freeze when she heard him utter that last phrase. A title she was all too familiar with.

She was labeled as "Koori no Kitsune" or "Ice Fox" by the press of the underworld, a place where many supernaturals live. The reason for this is because of her icy expression and cold demeanor, and her being the only ice fox demon in existence is another. Her peers of Hell Society caught wind of this and they had started to call her that ever since.

Calypso retracted her hand from the door handle and placed it back on her lap. Her expression grave. The atmosphere began to darken almost ominous as neither one inside the car spoke nor moved a muscle. After a while, Calypso broke the ice.

"I wasn't told that someone other than the main family knew the truth about me." She calmly informed as she glared at the person through the rearview mirror. The temperature dropping by the second.

Joe chuckled, not bothered at all by his current situation. "No need to be so tense. My position in Ren's family household gives me enough leeway to know certain things especially the ones that concern young master Ren, as I am his personal driver and bodyguard." He shrugged. A smug smile on his face.

"I see," she drawled out. Joe nods his head clearly proud of himself for knowing this fact. She took a deep breath to calm herself. The temperature now returning to normal but the ominous atmosphere remained.

"Then may I ask you something?" she asked.

"Of course," Joe agreed, which he now regrets when he heard her question.

"Why is the King of the Qilin doing outside his kingdom and is being subjected to a lowly task as a driver?" Calypso questioned cooly. It was now her turn to smile as she watched the agitated driver sweat.

Joe cleared his throat and laughed nervously. Well, I'll be, he thought amazed by the fact that she found out. He had been successful in hiding his power for years. Not even Ren's family knew who he truly is, and now this girl is the very first person that knows it.

"I'm sorry but I can't tell you," Joe declared. A few minutes of silence passed until Calypso suddenly said one thing that made him stiffen even further.

"Your mate."

"H-How did you...?" Joe stuttered as he stared wide-eyed at the person sitting comfortably in the back seat.

Unfazed and unimpressed is what best describes Calypso's current mood to Joe's dilemma. A mate chasing after the affections of their other half is the norm for supernaturals, but not to demons. They weren't given that luxury, as well as fairies, elves, and angels.

Joe sighed defeated. "You really are something else, miss." He looked tired when he said this. Calypso seeing this felt pity towards him.

"You haven't told her yet?" she asked. The ominous atmosphere is now completely gone.

"I can't right now," he answered, his voice dripped in sorrow and longing for his mate. Calypso kind of understands what he is going thru as she too longs for the person she loves as he is out of reach from her, for now.

Calypso tried to console the saddened king by saying, "Don't worry. She'll be in your arms soon enough." Joe smiled when the image of his mate in his arms popped up in his head.

"I hope so," he whispered as he engraved the picture to his heart. He sharply inhaled and plastered on a smile once again.

"Well, you best be off now. Can't be late on the first day of school." After Joe said this, Calypso groaned showing her absolute hate for that last statement. It's the one thing she loathes most of all from her situation. Going back to high school...once again.

Joe softly laughed at the teen's annoyed expression, this brought a small smile to Calypso's face. "You look more handsome with a real smile, Joe," she declared.

Joe smiled back and answered, "Thank you."

Bidding farewell to Joe, she opened the door and exited the car. Joe watched the teen walk off just to stop and turn back around. She walked back towards the car and tapped on the window of the passenger side. Joe rolled down the window. Calypso bent down slightly to be face to face with Joe and announced casually, "I have to report to HelSo about you."

Joe was stiff as a rock when he heard this. He was starting to become anxious when he had an inkling feeling about the person behind this. "Y-y-you don't have to do t-that," he stuttered. He cleared his throat and said, "I mean, why would you? I haven't done anything wrong..."

He was cut off when Calypso stated, "Well, we were hired to search for you and inform them of your whereabouts. The person who hired us happens to be your younger brother."

Joe shrieked and jumped in his seat. His face turned pale when his worst fears came true. Oh no, he thought. Calypso watched as the mighty king was shaking in his boots. She was actually enjoying this and so to tease him even further, she said, "Your brother was bawling his eyes out when he reported you were missing at HQ."

As she said this, Joe was silently screaming in his head, I'm dead! He's going to kill me for sure when he finds out the reason why I left! Calypso amusedly watched as the king have a mental breakdown.

"He was really devastated and worried about you, your majesty." She continued to add more salt to the wound. That one was the last straw as the king's soul slowly went out of his body, figuratively. Calypso giggled softly having her fun she breath out and said, "Alright, I won't report about this."

Joe's soul went back to his body and he smiled relieved after hearing this. "Thank you, Calypso"

"But..." she continued, "I have to tell about this to my commanding officer, at least." Joe didn't like the idea. If possible, he wants to remain hidden until further notice.

"No need to worry. He can be trusted if I explained to him your situation." Calypso further explained. Joe contemplated this for a few minutes. Afterward, Joe agreed on a promise that Calypso won't tell a soul about his true identity aside from her commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Charon a.k.a. Papa Bear.

Finally, after saying goodbye to each other Joe drove off. Calypso watched as the red lights of the car disappeared from her sight. She started to head inside and slowly walked down the halls trying to find the room for her first class. She was too preoccupied with her task that she almost didn't notice she was about to bump into someone. Successfully evading the group of girls casually walking on the same path as her. Happily gossiping about the dos and don'ts without a care in the world.

She also noticed one other thing about the group. One of the girls is being possessed by a demon, a rouge demon to be exact. The burning smell was faint but she would recognize that putrid smell from anywhere. She turned around slightly and discreetly used her powers to sense which of the girls were possessed. She followed a disappearing trail of a smokey cloud of blood almost black to a girl with a white pearl headband.

The color of the cloud of smoke was alarming as it was an indication that the demon was about to turn feral. Calypso took note of this and turned away to continue her search. She would take care of it immediately but considering the time and place she couldn't right now. She has to catch the girl when she is alone.

She sighed heavily as her hate for coming back to high school keeps on increasing. She stared at the bag of her master as she thought, And the headache of taking care of a child takes the cake.

Part 1 has ended.

Story Fun Facts: The Qilin ([tɕʰǐ.lǐn]; Chinese: 麒麟), or Kirin is a mythical hooved chimerical creature known in Chinese mythology and throughout the East Asian cultural sphere.

Mates are a supernatural's other half or their soulmate. It was a gift granted by the goddess of the moon. Although, not everyone has that luxury. There are two reasons; one being they have angered the goddess, and another is they have lost the goddess's favor.

So, that's about it.

See you all on the next update. :)
