Chapter 16- The get-together party- 2

While Abigail and Charles were chatting and drinking happily, Rebecca came to them and asked, “Abi, can I have some time with you?” Her tone was cold, and her expression was unreadable. She glanced at Charles nonchalantly before looking back at Abigail again.

Abigail didn’t want to leave him alone. She looked at him and then moved her eyes to Rebecca. She parted her lips to say something, but before that, Charles said, “Go. Don’t worry about me.”

Abigail turned her head to look back at him and asked, “Are you sure?”

“Go.” He gave a reassuring smile to her.

Abigail didn’t know why she didn’t want to leave his side. She was distressed and uncomfortable. She felt that something bad would happen to him if she left him alone, but he was smiling and telling her to spend time with her friends. Abigail couldn’t deny him and reluctantly went with Rebecca.

Once they were out of the line of his sight, Rebecca pulled her to a corner of the hall where no one was there and asked, “What is going on? Who is he?” She shot a suspicious look at her, eyebrows pulled together.

Abigail rolled her eyes and exhaled deeply, showing her annoyance. She asked, “You bring me here to ask this? Didn’t I tell you he is a friend?”

“Really?” Rebecca leveled the glare at her, crossing her arms over her chest. “Then why are you behaving so possessively if he is just a friend? Why didn’t you allow him to go with Nikki?”

“Because I know Nikki well. I know what she is up to.”

Abigail was on the verge of losing control. She couldn’t believe that Rebecca dragged her here just to argue with her on the matter of Nikki. She turned her head to the other side, not willing to talk to her anymore.

Rebecca looked at her skeptically for a while and asked bluntly, “Do you fall in love with him?”

Abigail turned her head frantically and peered at her, stunned. ‘Am I in love with Charles?’ She also asked herself the same question in her mind. This question made her heart beat faster. No… How could that be possible? She loved Aidan for five years. How could she fall in love with another man while she was still engaged to Aidan? She denied. But what about the feelings she had for Charles? She loved spending time with him. She was addicted to the care he showed to her. She never felt the warmth and content of Aidan that she felt with Charles. She was jealous of thinking about Charles with another woman, which is why she didn’t let him go with Nikki. She envied the woman who was his girlfriend. Thinking of his girlfriend, her mood became even more bitter.

“So, you are in love with him.”

Rebecca’s words snatched her out of her trance. She pulled back her gaze and said, looking down at the tip of her shoes, “He has a girlfriend.”

The disappointment and pain in her tone didn’t go unnoticed by Rebecca. She was certain in her heart that Abigail started liking this man. “Are you planning on breaking up with Aidan?” Rebecca’s expression was perturbed, and she gazed at her curiously.

Abigail raised her head and asked, shooting an unpleasant look at her, “What nonsense are you spouting?” She paused for a while and then said again, “I think I should go now.”

She lifted her leg to leave, but her eyes perceived the sight of Erica a little far away from them and asked frenetically, “Wait… Why is she here?”

Rebecca followed her gaze and saw Erica. She sighed and answered, “She came with Andy. I didn’t know that she was his cousin.”

Abigail was already in a bad mood, and it got worse after seeing Erica. Her heart was full of chaos. She wanted to escape from there and stay alone for a while. She turned and left, but Rebecca grabbed her wrist and asked, “Where are you going?”

“I need to go to the washroom.”

Abigail pulled her hand back and lowered her head as tears started gathering inside her eyes. She didn’t want to show her weakness to anyone.

Rebecca was a little worried about her. She asked again, “Are you okay? Shall I come with you?”

“I am fine, don’t worry. I want to be alone for a while.”

Abigail turned and left soon after dropping these words. Rebecca looked at her departing figure for a while before turning around and going back to her friends.

Erica saw Abigail walk out of the hall alone and glanced at her cousin Andy. Andy also looked back at her and nodded meaningfully. Then he exited the hall stealthily. Erica smiled evilly and sipped her cocktail drink, looking in the direction from where Abigail and Andy walked out just now.

Abigail rushed to the restroom and locked herself into an empty cubicle. She put down the toilet cover and sat on it, covering her face with her hands. Her shoulders trembled as she shed her tears quietly. Low sobs could be heard occasionally. She was confused. She was now not sure whether she wanted to continue her life with Aidan or not. She also didn’t know if her feeling for Charles was her love or not. But she was certain that she couldn’t see him with another woman. Could it be that what Rebecca said was true? Did she fall in love with Charles? She lowered her hands and looked at the certain point on the closed door, her expression perplexed. The last question kept coming over and over again in her mind, increasing her anxiety. She was doomed to suffer if she truly fell for him because Charles didn’t love her. He had a girlfriend, and she witnessed how concerned he was for his girlfriend. She felt a stabbing pain in her heart to recall this, and more tears rolled down from her eyes.

After crying for an unknown period of time, she finally gathered herself and stepped out of the washroom. But before she took a few steps, a large palm covered her mouth, and a strong arm wrapped around her waist from behind. She panicked instantly and screamed, but only a muffled voice came out of her mouth. She squirmed to escape, but the man was stronger than her, and she couldn’t make it. She used her all strength to set free, but the man successfully dragged her inside a room.

The man closed the door behind him and pushed her down. Abigail shrieked and fell to the ground on her face. She turned her head to look at the man who abducted her. The room was dimly lit, and she couldn’t see his face clearly. But she saw him approaching her, and she slid backward on the floor. “Who are you? What do you want?”

Tears were streaming down continuously. She was certain that the intention of the man was not good. Horror was evident in her eyes.

The man laughed and said, “Oh, Abi. You are so naive. Don’t you know what I want?”

He didn’t stop his steps to approach her.

He sounded familiar to Abigail. She recognized this voice. By then, her eyesight also adjusted in the dim light, and she could see his face clearly. He was none other than Andy. He had a crush on her since school. Several times he asked her to be his girlfriend, but Abigail only had Aidan in her heart, and she repeatedly refused him. She never thought even in her dreams that he would stoop so low. Her eyes widened in shock, and she exclaimed, “You… stay away. Don’t come any closer.” She kept retreating, looking frightfully at him.

Andy let out a sinister laugh and asked, “Do you think I will leave you tonight? I always dream of you beneath my body.” His lustful gaze roved on her body, and his voice became hoarse. “Tonight I get the chance to have you. Finally, you will be mine.”

Within a blink, he yanked her arm and pulled her up. She shrieked in fear and tried to push him away, but he hugged her tightly and kissed her fiercely.

Charles became impatient and bored when Abigail didn’t return for a long time. He thought about looking for her. He got up off the sofa and looked around the surroundings. The loud music was deafening, and people were chatting and drinking happily. Some of them were swaying their bodies crazy to the beat of the music as though there is no tomorrow. Then he saw Rebecca chatting with the blonde girl a little far away from him. But he didn’t see Abigail with her. ‘Where is she?’ This was the first question that surfaced in his mind instantly. He frowned deeply as an unknown fear crept within him. He strode towards her through the crowd.

Rebecca saw him coming towards her. She smiled and asked, “Hey, Charles. Do you want something?”

“Where is Miss Mills?”

Rebecca’s smile vanished instantly, and she asked, “Is she not with you?”

Charles sighed in dismay and turned his head on the other side to look away from her, only to look back at her again. He said impatiently, “She left with you and has not come back yet. Where is she?” He raised his voice with the last sentence, his expression somber.

Rebecca was stunned. Where could she go? She thought she had returned to Charles by now. She pursed her lips and said, “Nearly half an hour before she went to the washroom. I thought she came back and went to you.”

“She didn’t.” Charles turned around and stormed out of the hall as soon as he finished speaking.

“Wait, I will also come with you,” Rebecca exclaimed and chased him after.
