There is nothing between us

“Okay it's settled, we will have to meet again to talk about it, my place?”

“Okay but only because you have servants that would probably make delicious snacks”

A smirk played on his lips.

“Why do you need additional snacks when you already have a snack here”

I laughed hysterically and looked at him.

“If you're referring to yourself as a snack I'd rather eat only vegetables”

“Wow, princess, that hurt” he placed a hand to his chest and feigned heartache.

My eyes glanced at the clock that hung high on the wall in my sitting room.

“Whatever, it’s getting late, you should leave” I stood up and dusted my pants.

He stood up and also stared at the clock.

“So early?”

“Yes, please just go”

“Can’t I stay for a little longer, there’s something I want to talk about”

“Okay fine” my phone began to ring, I glanced at the screen and it was Cara.

“let me just answer this call, ill be back” I picked up my phone and walked away from the sitting room.

Cara started talking as soon as I answered the phone.

“Bree, I just had an awesome idea”

“What’s the idea”

“I know that you’re probably home alone, so I’m coming for a sleepover”

“Ok that’ll be fun”

“I know that you wouldn’t have eaten, don’t worry, ill bring some food over”

Even though Cara was a pain in the neck most times, there were some times when she was a good friend.

“Okay that sounds great”

“Splendid come open your front door”

“What?”

“I’m already here, the door is locked”

Just then I heard a knock on the door. Cara was at the door and Samuel was in the house, we were just doing an assignment she was going to understand, right?

I rushed to the living room to see if I could make sam go out through the back door but I was too late Sam had already let her in.

“Bree why didn’t you let me know you had company, I would have brought more food”

“There’s no need for that, I was about to leave,” Sam said and walked past her out the door.

He said he had to tell me something so I followed him outside despite the weird look Cara was giving me.

“Wait” I called out, he stopped and slowly turned towards my direction.

I walked to him and stopped when I was close enough.

“You said you had something you wanted to talk about”

“Don’t worry princess. We can talk about it another time”

“You sure? You sounded serious”

He placed a hand on my shoulder, instinctively I looked over at the hand, it felt weird that I didn’t want him to let go.

“We can talk about it another time” he gently squeezed my shoulder and let go “bye Brianna”

Is it weird that the way he calls my name makes me feel special?

“Bye Sammy”

I stood there smiling, Sam just had that effect on me. I love and hate the way he makes me feel.

“What was that about? Were you two just flirting?”

Startled I turned and faced Cara.

“We were just talking”

She had a look in her eye that said she did not believe me.

“I hope you’re saying the truth”

“I am, Cara lets go in and eat I’m starving”

She reluctantly said.

“Okay”

We walked back into the house, Cara brought out the food she brought and we started eating like two hungry wolves who had gone days without food.

“How is working with Matthew? It’s not as bad as you thought it was right?” I asked as we changed into jammies to go to bed.

“Well it’s not that bad” she replied as she buttoned her pajama shirt

“Not bad? That’s a surprise”

“He agreed to do it on his own”

I knew it sounded too good to be true, Cara working with a nerd like Mathew.

“Did he agree on his own?”

“I might have promised to let him sit with me during lunch for a week”

We both share a laugh after what Cara says but it’s a short laugh.

“Let’s be serious for a minute”

I raise an eyebrow in confusion.

“What’s wrong?”

“I saw the way you and Sam talked to each other. You know I like him right?”

“I know that you do, there’s no need to worry Cara the only thing between Sam and I is the assignment”

***************************************

“Cara wake up” I yelled as I shook her

She turned and murmured.

“why?”

I continued to shake her.

“We have school today”

And she continued to mumble

“But it’s Sunday we don’t have to go to school”

I sighed loudly.

“It’s Wednesday”

Her eyes immediately popped open.

“It’s Wednesday, why didn’t you say so”

I ignored her remark and threw a towel at her.

“Quickly shower or we’ll be late”

“Okay”

After we got dressed for school, we had a little breakfast and I drove us to school. Cara had not gotten her driver’s license and she had absolutely no plan of getting one. We arrived at school on time, which was surprising considering the time it took for Cara to get ready.

As we approached our lockers a guy walked towards us, I recognized him as the quarterback, his name was Shane. He and Cara dated for a while last year and he still tried all he could to get back together with her. Cara on the other hand had moved on but it didn’t stop her from letting him think he had a chance with her.

He shoved his wavy hair back away from his face and smiled

“Hi Cara”

She looked away from her locker and glanced at him for a hot second.

“What do you want?”

He placed a hand on the door to her locker and kept his smile on.

“The guys and I are having a party at my place to celebrate our win in the last match we had. I was wondering if you would like to come”
