Abandoned

Dyn woke to the sound of crying. His crying. He attempted to open his eyes but was greeted only with a flash of light before they closed on him again.

Dyn attempted to move his arms and legs but was met with no response. The only feeling he had at the moment was a dull hunger. This hunger seemed to drive him to start bawling, which he couldn't control.

Eventually, he seemed too tired to continue crying and promptly fell asleep. In his dream, he was greeted with the same box from his previous dream. The box formed the word, "Status."

Dyn attempted to say the word and was greeted with his own voice saying, "Status." Immediately a screen popped up in front of him, showing a screen he was familiar with, combined with some unfamiliar words.

The screen was the same design as the status screen from The Legend of Gods, and he could read the words just fine. However, the meaning of his rank was unclear to him. What did "God" mean and did Stage 1 mean that there were higher stages than the stage he was currently at?

Dyn took a glance at the status sheet again, noticing that it was slowly fading away. He awoke to the sound of voices. Voices that seemed to be speaking in a different language than English. Wishing that he could understand them, Dyn once again attempted to open his eyes, noting that he was still feeling hungry.

This time he was successful and opened his eyes to see a couple arguing. They appeared to be wearing rags, leather clothing that was so worn down, they might as well not even wear clothes. Dyn paid close attention to their tones, they sounded disappointed and angry, shouting at each other and occasionally pointing at Dyn.

Not knowing what they were talking about, Dyn began to focus more on his surroundings, what he could see, at least, without moving his head. He was in some sort of shack. Shoddily constructed out of wood, slight bits of stone here and there, and dried mud with straw in it. The roof was made purely out of straw that appeared to have been oiled, as it was very shiny. Dyn assumed that it was made that way to keep water out. He could faintly smell wood smoke, the type that would be produced if one were to go camping and start a campfire. That scent seemed to mask another smell though, the new smell seemed to be one of garbage and rotting food.

Dyn did his best to crinkle his nose and stopped using his sense of smell. His parents still seemed to be arguing. His supposed parents. He had no confirmation that they were his parents, just his assumptions. Dyn was broken out of his thoughts when the woman picked him up. She looked at him with cold eyes, nothing like what a mother would look at her son with. Her eyes flickered with greed for a moment before her arm stiffened. Holding Dyn in front of her like he was trash, she moved towards the door of the shack. Dyn, not understanding what was happening continued to observe the woman's eyes, noticing that she appeared to be steeling herself for some reason. Walking outside, the woman turned left, continuing walking for about two minutes. She turned right, took the blanket that surrounded him off, and set him down on the cold stone. Briefly, she appeared to have some pity, but steeling herself again she walked back the same way she came, leaving Dyn all alone, cold, naked, and afraid.
