Chapter 22

I looked at the horizon and saw that beyond the lagoon was covered with a thick fog. I couldn't see my hand if were in front of me. I wanted to go swimming but was told by a teasing Drakov that the lagoon hosts a vast number of creatures that would happily attack me without warning. I flew up to see what types of disaster was lurking in the water. The obvious of them was a group of giant electric eels. The sea snakes that I saw crawl out on to a rock. A school of piranhas were seen not far from the sea grass. There were multi colored fishes swimming around a beautiful corals reef. The gliding monsters himself (the great white shark) seen going in circles. It was like he was keeping an eye out for trouble. The coral was covering the lagoon. After a point there was a cliff that also had different types of corals decorating it. The corals decorated down the cliff wall as well. It was a thousand meters drop to midnight point. Suddenly a mako shark jumped thirty feet into the air and tried to take a bite out of me. I let out a shriek to say that I had about enough.

I went to a higher altitude and turned into bats. I swirled around and flew back to Drakov. The little dragons let out a rumbling sound resembling laughter. Drakov chuckled as he reminded me that not every body of water was meant for swimming. The island had many caves. They look endless. So I should play explorer and find a way to entertain myself out of the waters. No one knows the existence of this island except for Drakov and Arroyo. This is called the island of Vos. Only baby dragons live here. No cannibal tribes, no mermaids,no king Kong, no Godzilla and absolutely no witches. Only dragons are allowed to live here. I am only allowed under special circumstances. This island is home to baby dragons. It turned that others used to live here. Some mythical creature used to call this place as their home sweet home. For reasons unknown they died out so now the baby dragons live here. They greeted me happily as the most cutest looking baby dragon dragged me in land.

The island was a dense forest of different types of trees. One particular tree caught my eye when it's fruit landed hard on an unsuspecting dragon's head. A coconut. Sir Issac Newtown would not be alive to talk about gravity had that landed on his head. The dragon ran circles crying in pain. It's eyes filled with tears. I gave it a hug and rubbed my hand over the bruise. The dragon walked to cave nearest to him and stuck his head into a pool. When it came out I kissed the bruise to make it better. It moaned a little. The other dragons gave a cheerful sound. A few dragons nearby gave me a hug too. I was surprised to know that the water didn't radiat heat. In fact the pool felt colder the closer you got to it. The surrounding walls was covered in layers of ice.

There were a series of tunnels connecting the caves together. All the tunnels were well lit with balls of fire every few paces. You can say that they have been built to trap the cold air from escaping. The deeper you go in the tunnel the colder it gets. After a few feet it was so unbearably cold that I had to turn around.

The island looked like it was in the subtropical zone. Which meant that it either was sunny or rainy. No snow, no hail and definitely no sleet. It got seriously hot and suddenly dark cloud covered the sky. It got so dark you could say that it looked like a solar esclipse had occured. Suddenly it started to rain. The rain was pouring in such a way that I would say that someone had tilted a bucket. Wind was blowing from the sea pushing me forward. I ran till I was safely back in the cave. Soon there were huge puddles everywhere. The dragon waited till it stopped raining to jump on them. They hopped from one puddle to the other. It was like watching a bunch of kindergarteners on recess time. They let out squeaks that sounds like children laughing. The other sat to watch the fiasco.

All of a sudden it rained again. The air felt warm. The coolness of the cave was inviting. Since I was sitting not far from the mouth of the cave the cold air was bareable. The dragons saw that I was soaked to the bone wet and that I was shivering so they kindly huddled around me. They closed their eye as though they wanted to meditate. Slowly their skin began to glow orange. I felt a warmth that put me to sleep. I kissed the ones closest before I fell asleep.

My sleep was interrupt by a loud bang. A few humans had made passed the barrier. They thought it was best to attack the dragons. I told them to stop firing. They froze when they heard my voice. I told them to drop their weapons. Then I asked them to sit down without moving. They complied. The dragons glowed red and turned into huge beasts. The sight made me run back to the cave. The dragons jumped up in the air and landed on the interlopers. They were crushed in one go. I took a good look at them. They looked less like dragons.

They looked more like a hydra. Their skin was scaly like a snake. Their skin color went from ashy gray to pitch black. Their yellow eyes turned electric blue. They are much bigger than Drakov when he turns into a dragon. When they breathed fire it looked more like lava. I am used to seeing flames that are red, or orange or yellow. The color I saw emmiting from their mouths was lapis lazuli. The heat had a greater intensity as well. The cold cave felt like a welcome reprieve. The dragons crushed the intruder and burned them. When the lava flames stopped I only saw ashes sculpted to resemble the person. They flapped their wings viciously and the ashes scattered to the wind.

I waited till they calmed down. I took a few deep breaths and ran to the injured ones. I slashed my wrist and fed my blood to the injured baby dragons. He healed and the other dragons let out a noise. It felt like some sort of victory or maybe even a war cry. I heard a distinct clicking sound. I looked up to see that there was one human who had survived the onslaught. He pointed his gun at me and ordered me to heal him. Before I could say or do anything a baby dragon quickly stood behind him and became a monster. The man felt a presence behind so he turned around to see the beast. The beast took a deep breath and exhaled a huge burst of fire and he died instantly. I am sure he felt pain for a brief moment before death took him.
