No Rest for the Good or the Wicked

For the next few years, Duyi was kept busy between his studies, going to school, and meeting up with his friends.

Well... he only had one friend. The Fatty.

For some reason, the Big Ran had been bullied more than once! He was called an "inferior model" because of his build and had been beaten up by older kids.

He was the same age as his peers, and was actually taller and smarter, but the older kids liked to pick on him because he was "uglier" with his chubbiness.

Duyi often caught them and tried to intervene. He often got beat up by other kids with Haoran as well.

Currently, they sat in the nurse's office.

"Big Ran, I thought I told you to stay away from the back of the cafeteria! You don't like to listen huh!" "I'll listen to you."

He was nagging the stupid kid as he dabbed him with alcohol pads and slapped band-aids where there were cuts.

He was cut as well, but he could take care of himself later.

He had to pull his friend's ear first, it was shameful enough that they had been beaten!

"Hit them with hard objects, then be shameless and run away! Swear at them and get revenge later! Anyway, you'll be the biggest and tallest when we grow up! I can already tell!" "Okay."

"I'll be taller and stronger than you though. Later, I'll help you kick their asses and send them to hell!" "I'm sure you will."

"Make sure to ask them next time if they get hit at home and that's why they hit smaller kids too!" "Hm."

"... Then I'll report to the teacher and say that we forgive them but ask them to investigate at their homes to embarrass their parents and get them in trouble some more..."

Duyi then sat down. He looked straight at Haoran and squinted.

"... What are you waiting for! Help me patch up!" "..."

He quietly grabbed the alcohol and helped Duyi clean and bandage himself.

They both walked home looking like jack-'o-lanterns and were scolded by their parents.

Duyi's mom told him to get into less fights while Haoran's father told him to beat the crap out of the other kids.

They had similar experiences and lived near eachother.

In the mornings, Haoran would wait outside his gate and Duyi would bring out food for him to snack on during the day.

They would walk everywhere together and make trouble with other people.

It was mostly Duyi who made trouble with other people, but the neighborhood aunties and teachers liked him well enough even with his brazen attitude and liveliness.

Basically, he was a little ray of sunshine.(An asshole)

Both Haoran and Duyi had good grades, but they were never better than the male and female leads', because of the world's twisted logic.

This was okay, because Duyi had very little contact with the leads in the first place.

They were now in middle school, and Duyi had already finished studying the fundamentals of building a spaceship and was currently working on AI for the motherboard and the food problem on the ship, else humanity turns to cannibalism like in the original story before finding an inhabitable place.

He accelerated the growth of plants to five days, but found that it took too many nutrients out of the soil.

Therefore, he proposed using human waste as a way of promoting the nutrients in the soil or artificially creating nutrients from matter, which was harder to do.

He also wanted to bring some animals with him into space, but figured that they would need to improve their genetic templates to make them more resilient.

Being a space connesour was hard work!

He was working out advanced biochemical equations when Miaomiao walked up behind him.

She was beginning to become prettier like the female lead should be.

"... Duyi, can we talk?"

Duyi looked up at Miaomiao, "... Do I know you?" and acted like he didn't know her.

It wasn't like he didn't notice her heated gazes or longing stares during class time. He just chose to ignore her.

The male lead constantly looked at Duyi like his death was near because of her small crush. The male lead would then lash out at her and never confessed!

Duyi chose to ignore them because he didn't want to be involved, and involvement meant death.

But the female lead wouldn't let him get away!

As she looked at Duyi's cold face, Miaomiao's heart raced.

Duyi got prettier and prettier as they got older, until he was outrageously exquisite!

Many people looked at him in awe, but only she was shameful. She still remembered how they had been friends in kindergarten.

Obviously, she wanted to re-kindle their friendship, but she couldn't quite find the correct words.

Miaomiao blushed, "I'm sorry..." and said her classic line!

Duyi felt like he was about to die!
