Choppin’ It Up

"So your that new doctor they were telling us about huh?" Alex asked Johnny when they closed the door behind them "Sure am, where were you? There was a whole meeting and everything," he smiled making one of his brows rise.

"I see you still do that," Alex smiled as she changed the subject, pointing towards his brow. "What do you mean? Do what?" He smiled once more. Alex made a straight line with her mouth and pointed towards his brow again this time slightly touching his face. "Oh," he chuckled as he realized what she was referring to. "Yes, your brow dummy. You used to do it every time you would "flirt" with girls ," she laughed remembering his awkward high school phase.

"What's going on with the air quotes?" he grinned, intertwining his and Alex's arms and walking down the hall towards the break room. "Because you would try. It's not like you ever succeeded," she laughed once more. Johnny only smiled and watched her as her eyes lit up with her beautiful smile and cute, contagious laugh. He had missed Alex, and regretted ever falling out with her all those years ago.

"So tell me about the people here," Johnny said opening the break room door for Alex. "Look at you," she smiled referring to him opening the door for her. "Well, it's your typical hospital I guess Johnny," she smiled as they sat down on the couch. "There's the people who are overly happy and joyful and then there's the dicks. The surgeons are the dicks," she continued with a look of disgust on her face.

"Why the surgeons?" Johnny asked, remembering how Alex couldn't go without calling at least one person a dick while giving information. Watching Alex talk and explain why she thought surgeons were dicks, Johnny could barely pay attention to what she was talking saying.

He was too busy watching how her eye lashes flustered when she got mad or how bright and pretty her smile was. How deep her dimples were when she would make a straight line with her mouth every time she said someone would ask a dumb question.

"JOHNNY!" Alex shouted snapping him out of his daydream. "Huh?" He smiled. "Your pager's going off you gotta go," she urged pointing to his little back pager that was clipped to his teal scrub bottoms. "Oh yeah, I'll see you later okay," he rushed, getting up and walking backwards towards the door. Johnny turned around and started walking the right way when he stopped and turned back towards Alex, "oh and I'm a surgeon by the way," he smirked seeing the shocked look on Alex's face that slowly but surely faded.

"Exactly my point," she sassed. "Now gogogo," she rushed. Johnny gave Alex one more smile before he turned and ran out of the break room. "Idiot," Alex smiled to herself as she sat back on the couch and started watching what appeared to be Good Girls on the tv ahead of her. "I don't care what anybody says, I would have Rio's kids," she said out loud to herself.

Alex's POV

"Hey Marcus…I'm not going to be able to pick Briana up from school today. They have me pulling a double, so could you get her since your coming tomorrow anyway?" I pleaded to my ex husband, Briana's father.

"Yeah no problem, what time does school get out?" He asked. "3:15," I answered. "Okay, you still keep that spare key under the mat?" He inquired. "Mmh hm," I hummed trying to hurry the conversation. I had to be with one of my patients. Mrs. Sanchez was having complications. "Yeah, okay I'll have her FaceTime you tonight," he finished. "Good, tell her Mommy loves her," I rushed. I hung up the phone and threw it in my locker. My arms and head got lost in my gown as I tried to hurry pull it over my head but I managed.

"Father God please be with Mrs. Sanchez as I deliver this baby of her's dear Lord. Please protect this mother and her soon to be born child. And please guide me and order my steps during this delivery so that a healthy baby is born and the mother is fine as well. In Jesus name Amen," I prayed before walking into the room.

"How we doing?" I asked Mrs. Sanchez as I started sterilizing. "She's in lots of pain Doctor Monroe," Mr. Sanchez, Mrs. Sanchez's husband answered for her. She had been unable to do anything but scream, cry, and yell because of the pain she had been going through.

"Talk to me Micheals," I said walking around the room to the other side of Mrs. Sanchez. "She's been in labor for 5 hours now and she's not dilated at all, she may need to have an emergency C-section," Micheals explained. "Did you call for a surgeon?" I asked. "Yes ma'am we did they are on their way," he answered quickly. "And who is that?" I asked as I moved around the room to get the equipment ready. "Dr. Depp, the new surgeon," Micheals answered just as he came running in.

"How is she?" Johnny asked as he was sterilizing himself. "Not good she's in lots of pain. We're gonna have to preform an emergency C-section on her or I'm afraid she'll loose the baby or her life," I rushed. "Alright let's do this," Johnny said as we all took our positions ready to deliver the baby.

*52 minutes later*

"Thank you so much Dr. Depp and Dr. Monroe," Mr. Sanchez thanked us as he held his beautiful baby girl in his arms. "Yes thank you," Mrs. Sanchez smiled weakly. "It's our job, I'm just glad we finished with both of you," Johnny smiled. "Get some rest momma and Mr. Sanchez, make sure you ask the nurses for me directly if she tries to be superwoman and isn't resting like she should," I added with a playful smile towards the end. "I will," he smiled back.

"Awe such a cutie," I cooed at the beautiful baby girl before saying goodbye once more and waking out with Johnny once again for the second time today.

"We gotta stop meeting like this," he smirked, showing off that stupid grin I hated so much but secretly loved. "Umm no sir, don't do that," I said while playfully rolling my eyes and waking around him. "What?," he asked with that dumb smirk still present.

"I feel like your following me," he continued. "Look at you, you haven't been here a full day and already are a dick," I laughed going down the hallway to check on one of my other patients. "What time is your shift over?" Johnny yelled down the hall. "I'm here all night," I answered with my back still facing him as I walked down the hall with a goofy grin on my face.
