Chapter 10 Initial Clues

Back at the dormitory, He Xingzhou continued organizing his research materials. He needed to write a comparative analysis of the genes and biological traits of the mutant black sea bream and establish a model for biological mutation, or rather evolution, as a warning.

He Xingzhou numbered the three mutant black sea breams and found that the Zerg gene manifestation in each was different.

Among them, two of the black sea breams did not experience rapid Zerg gene mutation even after being stimulated by nuclear radiation. However, the gene mutation rate in Black Sea Bream No. 2 increased by hundreds of times!

It seemed to have entered a mutation phase, with new changes occurring daily.

The Quantum Light Computer reminded, "When Zerg genes invade organisms on a primitive planet, this situation occurs upon reaching a certain level. As long as it can obtain ample food, it can evolve into a lower-level Zerg within weeks or months."

"So, Black Sea Bream No. 2 will mutate into a Zerg within weeks?" He Xingzhou asked.

The Quantum Light Computer replied, "Theoretically, yes."

He Xingzhou became serious. According to the Quantum Light Computer, Zergs had various forms, but undoubtedly, they were all highly aggressive creatures.

It seemed he needed to properly oversee this fish as it would be a critical biological material to prove his Zerg crisis theory!

He Xingzhou immediately contacted the mutant creature research group and headed to the biological experiment building.

When he arrived at the biological experiment building, two classmates were already waiting for him. Both were biology students and members of the mutant creature research interest group.

"Senior, over here!" A female junior stood in the shade and waved at him from afar.

He Xingzhou looked over and immediately noticed a beautiful silhouette. The most striking feature was her pair of jade-like legs, with thighs gracefully rounded, calves slender and smooth, perfectly proportioned.

Her fresh canvas shoes paired with denim shorts and a white T-shirt accentuated her dynamic and sexy figure, standing at one meter sixty-seven!

She had an oval face with delicate willowy eyebrows, eyes like bright moons, red lips, a straight fair nose, and medium-length silky hair curling slightly at the ends. Her good looks captured the attention of passing students who couldn't help but take another glance at her.

This was Jiang Chan, a member of the research group, who, as a freshman, was two years younger than He Xingzhou. After learning that He Xingzhou could build a homemade nuclear reactor, she greatly admired him.

Standing next to Jiang Chan was Wu Rui, the leader of the research interest group and a senior, one year ahead of He Xingzhou. He was a rough-looking but academically rigorous guy.

"It's hot, here you go." Jiang Chan handed He Xingzhou a bottle of cold mineral water, which he accepted without hesitation, taking two gulps.

"How are my fish doing?" He Xingzhou asked.

"They're lively!" Jiang Chan appeared puzzled, "And they're too active. We've seen many mutant fish, but the ones you brought are like biological engines, bustling nonstop all day, constantly demanding food."

"Yes," Wu Rui nodded, "Originally, we kept them together, but I found they started to attack and bite each other, so we had to separate them. These fish have enormous appetites, and they've completely surpassed the normal range for black sea breams in size!"

"Generally, adult black sea breams are about 120-300 millimeters long and weigh 125-1800 grams, with the largest reaching 3.5-4.0 kilograms. But these mutant fish, the smallest among them, are three times the size of ordinary black sea breams!"

"Black Sea Bream No. 2 has grown five times larger, half a meter long, it's extraordinary!"

As the three chatted, they walked into the experiment building.

In the biological experiment tank at the laboratory, He Xingzhou saw his three research subjects.

Black Sea Breams No. 1 and No. 3 had grown to twice their original size, while Black Sea Bream No. 2 had completely mutated into what seemed like a new species!

In the tank water, it resembled a dark monster, with two rows of sharp teeth like serrated edges, and its head was swollen, taking up one-third of its body!

This indicated its brain capacity was increasing, and its previously sturdy dorsal fin had grown twice as large, even showing signs of exoskeleton growth!

Upon seeing people, it constantly stirred, striking the aquarium, sometimes even leaping out of the water. Without the laboratory's safety measures, it might have burst out of the tank!

Jiang Chan, somewhat scared, asked, "It's increasingly like a monster, can we still keep it?"

"It is a monster!" He Xingzhou affirmed, "According to my deduction, Black Sea Bream No. 2 will mutate and, within weeks, it will completely turn into a monster!"

"This is indeed the most mutated creature I've seen!" Wu Rui commented while photographing and documenting Black Sea Bream No. 2's appearance.

He said, "Mutant creatures are appearing all over the world, but most mutations are minor. I've only seen one like Black Sea Bream No. 2 that's completely mutated. Could it be because you stimulated it with nuclear radiation?"

He Xingzhou nodded, "That should have had an impact."

"I think we need to cover this safety tank with an iron cage to prevent the monster from escaping and harming anyone!"

"I agree!" Wu Rui concurred.

The laboratory was one they had applied for from the school and lacked advanced equipment, so genetic testing and similar tasks were conducted at the school's professional labs.

"Also, from now on, it needs to be fed ample food daily!" He Xingzhou said.

"It grows too fast, and it eats as much as you feed it!" Jiang Chan worried, "Will that make it mutate faster?"

"Yes." He Xingzhou's words made both of them concerned.

"I feel our experiment has somewhat exceeded what we can control!" Wu Rui said, "Should we report this to the school?"

"No rush," He Xingzhou replied calmly, "In another week, I think it will mutate even more bizarrely, and by then my research paper will be finished."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Chan curiously asked, "Senior, you said according to your model, it will become an alien monster. Is it really that exaggerated? If what you say happens to other mutant creatures as well, this world would be in chaos, and it would be like a biohazard apocalypse!"

"It is a biohazard!" He Xingzhou did not hide his view, as they would find out sooner or later.

"I'm not exaggerating when I say I believe this world will face a biohazard apocalypse within decades. Mutant creatures will take over this planet, and if humans don't have countermeasures, they'll also quickly become extinct."

Hearing his words, Wu Rui laughed and said, "That's not exaggerated? How could it be possible?"

"Even if this black sea bream grows twice as large, it'd only be slightly bigger, and even great white sharks or whales have no resistance against humans!"

"How much more can it mutate? Besides, in this world, any biological anomaly has been seen before."

Jiang Chan pondered He Xingzhou's words and said, "Although I also think it's unlikely, I feel Senior He Xingzhou isn't just crying wolf!"

"I think you're just blindly admiring him!" Wu Rui teased.

Jiang Chan blushed and said, "I'm being objective. I've read the genetic analysis before; it's indeed very peculiar!"

He Xingzhou said, "Just wait one more week. Following the genetic evolution model I've established, within a week, Black Sea Bream No. 2 will completely overturn your understanding!"
